Roland solo, standard. Too easy?

By Madjack0707, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hey guys,

Played my first game tonight with Roland solo. I played on standard difficulty and felt that it was almost too easy. I am pretty sure I followed the rules thoroughly and had the reference handy. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience at this level. Thanks!

The first scenario is easy, especially for Roland. Don't worry, the difficulty ramps up!

Yeah, the first scenario is design to be fairly easy, but the next to get progressively harder. I've not yet managed to successfully complete the last one solo (even after dropping to easy mode).

No I've done two solo campaigns with Roland, on Easy and found it to be difficult. He's only OK at investigating and is poor at evading. He's not a tank and is incredibly vulnerable to horror/will tests.

If he starts Scenario 2 or 3 with a mental trauma then he's really screwed.

Thanks guys. About to start act two!

I spoke too soon!! Just got it handed to me in act 2. Didn't even make it out of the first location, chaos bag was none to kind to me.

Not even out of the first location? That's really hard.

You can easily spawn Acolytes and add Doom to the agenda, advance it on the 1st or 2nd Mythos phase and get the Masked Hunter engaged with you. Especially if you linger at Rivertown looking for clues and keep failing from bad Chaos token pulls.

Not just bad chaos token pulls, but there is a treachery card that causes you to drop clues, and one that can make you spend it vs take damage. I played through solo on that story once and didn't get 2 clues at the same time through the whole game lol.

Ugh! Three attempts, three failures! The chaos bag is punishing!! Giving it up for tonight, have to go eat some turkey. Try again tomorrow.

What do you define as failure? It's near impossible to get all 6 Cultists. If you're defeated before interrogating any, that's probably worth a replay; but getting 2 or 3, you should still try to advance to Scenario #3 with that result. The point of the game isn't perfection on each scenario, but to progress with whatever result the game hands you. I've yet to even save Arkham, but I still play out the full campaign to its bitter end.

EDIT

I realize now you meant Act 2 of Scenario 1; not Scenario 2. Yeah I've had some extremely unfortunate draws and not made it out of the study. Combat-weak Investigators who get bad draws of enemies and have to waste actions constantly evading.

Urg!! Not played Roland before, so I decided to deck build straight off, bad move!! ;) 3 straight losses on the first scenario :( so I decided to try out the suggested deck. SUCCESS. I suck at deck building.

It was tough for me at first since I screwed up the rules a bit. :D

My first outing, I forgot to use my Assets with Health and Sanity values and deal them Damage and Horror first, before Roland. (face palm)

Got very Lucky with Roland vs the masked hunter, had a knife dynamite blast and beat cop to take that one down, and drew obscuring fog on a location I had just cleared of clues. can you imagne an extra +2 shroud on a 4shroud location?

Yeah me to on the first game. Used dynamite blast, dealt 3 damage to the ghoul priest, wendy and Roland (on 4 health) and then knifed the ghoul priest, 11 combat skill to 4. Except I drew the one chaos token that dealt me 1 damage for having a ghoul present. It's only after we cleared up I noticed I still had that librarian ally in play, who could have taken a wound and saved Roland. D'oh!

Actually Roland is one of the best to deal with that due to his Investigator ability combined with cards like Evidence!.

Very true. Screw investigating, let's beat the truth out of some cultists!

But it's always nice when you draw a treachery card that would have realy hosed you a turn or two ago, but now does nothing. (Like drawing paranoia when you have just spent all your resources.)
