A Score to Settle - cost

By Stefan, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

just wanted to ask if I'm considering this new condition card "A Score to Settle":

1) Everyone can equip it, provided they have an EPT slot.

2) If you don't plan on equipping an EPT, you take this.

3) Its only cost is the opportunity cost for a better upgrade.

Am I right? Because in this case, why wouldn't I give it to every A-Wing in an A-Wing swarm, for example?

It's unique

I believe it is a unique EPT if I remember right so that kind of prevents a swarm from using them.

Dang, so that's how it feels to be ninja'd.

because its a double edged sword. It works AGAINST you as well.

Ok I'm stupid it's unique, but still, it's practicly an auto-include if you don't want to actually buy anything right?

Ah, I totally missed that. Good point, thanks!

If you wanna give your opponent more chances to damage you to be able to have more chances to damage them, then sure

1. Its unique.

2. Its a two-edged weapon. Your selected opponent gets the bonus against you, too, so it should be used wisely.

Edit: Multiple ninja'd.

i expect a lot of people to take it and completely miss the double-edge part because thats on the condition, which applies to the enemy ship not your ship. The upgrade makes no mention the other ship can do this too.

Its probably the only condition im not a fan of purely because of that. The other conditions are more of a description, this is like giving them an upgrade card.

Trick Shot is the one that is entirely cost-free except for the slot...

Both old chewie and Ten Numb might like this upgrade.

Might run it on Bossk or Maarek Steele they can take advantage of the crits. Imperial Kath or Ten Numb for casual games..

Shove Greedo in there too.

BAAAY!!

I'm going to have a hard time finding anywhere that I'd realisticly want to use this EPT. All of the ships I'd consider taking it on in a "might be decent if I didn't have the points for an EPT" situation are the same ships that I'm usually sinking enough points into that finding a couple more for a better EPT is worth it.

Maybe if you've got 21 points left to spend and are looking to add a little punch?

N'Dru Suhlak (17)
A Score to Settle (0)
Cluster Missiles (4)
Guidance Chips (0)
Total: 21
4 dice twice with a focus on each changing to a crit. On one of the attacks you can change a die to a hit. Not the best modification but it has the potential do some damage to a low agility target.
Switch out the Clusters for Concussion Missiles for the same cost and N'Dru is throwing 5 dice and gets to change one focus to a crit, one blank to a hit, and one other die to a hit when firing against his chosen target.
Go up to 22 to bring Homing Missiles. 5 dice with a TL to reroll to go with the mods from GC and A Scrore to Settle.

Tail Gunner R2 Norra might like it. She can regen shields to negate potential crits, while she can spend target locks to consistently get at least one crit. Big Ships beware!

If I had an empty EPT to fill, I would take Trick Shot. +1 red vs +1 green is a win for the attacker. Adaptability is still good, but sometimes +/-1 PS won't likely make a difference, while there almost always comes a time where you have to take an obstructed shot.

A Score to Settle is situational with its drawback. Not bad, but not an auto-include.

Tail Gunner R2 Norra might like it. Shecan regen shields to negate potential crits, while she can spend target locks to consistently get at least one crit. Big Ships beware!

That...is actually kinda valid. It would automatically mod her added focus.

It does have the obvious return issue but aux arc ships are generally outflying people, not trading shots.

If you have Kylo Ren on board, you can Blind them twice and make them PS 0 on the third shot. If three unanswered shots haven't killed them, then you deserve to collect your debt.

And Imp squad using Kylo crew could also benefit from it.

It's almost risk free for Ten Numb. He's mostly shields as is, though still expensive.

It might be good for Corran if you're not using VI. He potentially gets two crits in one round, and his defense and regen keep him safe.

Could work on Chewbacca.

Edit: Would still make a focus a damage result, but would ignore the crit portion.

It probably works better on the Kylo Ren pilot since he can't assign his condition until he gets attacked. With a Score to Settle on one of your opponent's ships you create the dilemma of allowing Kylo to assign his condition early in the game or you grant him the added modification against the ship that has A Debt to Pay with no real downside while saving him for last. In the event that you go after Kylo first, he's now got a way to deal crits fairly reliably to one of your ships.
