Scavenger Crane - best ideas for use?

By SaszaPL, in X-Wing

Here's my new idea:

Zuvio and the Zeds

A decked out Quadjumpa with a five-pack of dirty dealing pirates. (VI instead of PTL, to get that sweet 97 point initiative bid with PS9)

My plan is to Gonk up and then hopefully drop as many clusters as possible- blocking and swarming the whole way. Every list with only one crane is so dependent on "lucky red dice rolling" to keep that **** thing.

I like the idea, but I don't get the Gonk thing... where's your shield?

Yes, I was curious about that as well - you do not have Shields to recover mate.. No Gonk here, unless Shield Upgrade..

I would drop PtL to VI and upgrade two Zetas to Feedback Array, because you have no way to push a stress over your enemies, hence BMST is questionable (you remove the stress so you won't deal more than 1 dmg per stress token) and I would also change Gonk to Bombardier (this 2 straight may be really useful from front guides).

Bossk

- Crack Shot

- Dengar , 4LOM, Zuckuss

- Scavenger Crane

- Homing Missiles

- Guidance Monkey

Try to get the second TargetLock after Zuckuss :)

K4 instead of Dengar.

Homing missiles don't require you to spend the target lock.

Homing missiles don't require you to spend the target lock.

But do you really want to fire them and not use the lock for maximum hits? Sure with dengar you might actually get away with it.

Rarely if you don't also have a focus token but do have chips (if your only care is max damage on this attack, you have a less than 10% chance of keeping it).

If you care about longer term action efficiency, then probably more often.

If you do have a focus token your chance to retain the TL goes up a lot to over 30%.

Woops.

I should have printed the text instead of the link... I made so many diff versions I didn't realize I screwed it up.

The Gonk was on the VI, Shield Upgrade version. I played a few rounds last night with PTL, Bombardier. before I ran out of Cluster tokens, I blew up one of my Z's and got back my mines only to hit the remaining of the token set. PURE CHAOS!

Yep, VI worked well. MY idea was having the BMST ensures I'll catch any Aces that are Pushing the Limit or Stress stackers (I seem to play them all the time) BUT yes, the Bombardier was my first choice and I flew it once to try it out - too much fun. Feedback Array is my fave and I will probably have one on every Scum list til I die- I'm hooked. FA lets you sacrifice a Z to get the Crane trigger as well.

This works until the target goes down and you need to switch the lock onto something else in order to have a shot...K4 is the way to go.

Yeah, then you throw a sh*tty dice, and throw the entire build with it.

K4+Crane

I see a place for this card on Dengaroo - instead of Glitterstim (the same effect you will get from the mech) while you will be able to possibly use you Countermeasures more frequently. At the price of few stress tokens you get additional uses of a good card, so why not if you don't care about stress anyway?

As someone who's played quite a bit of Dengaroo I am intrigued by this card, but ultimately don't see myself using it. I have 3 main reasons.

First in Dengaroo especially it's a "Win More" card. If your not familiar with the term it means something that will help you in good matchups or good situations but lack in bad matchups or bad situations. With Dengaroo having to rely exclusively on enemy ships being destroyed for the card to proc (except rare edge cases) and it's worst matchups being Palp Aces and Triple Defenders (Those matchups being bad because you can't kill anything) you can see my logic.

Second it can be a awkward card. You of course want Scavenger Crane to proc on Countermeasures, problem is saving Countermeasures for the right time is crucial in Dengaroo. Trying to get value off Scavenger Crane can force you to use Countermeasures at a poor time, if you don't destroy a ship you can easily get punished the following turn. You also sometimes don't expect to kill a ship, if you still have Countermeasures you then missed a extra use.

The third is the meta. The Top 16 at this years worlds had 15 lists with 2-3 ships and 1 list with 4 ships. The current ship count at top level squads is at a all time low, less enemy ships means chances to proc Scavenger Crance. If we see a increase in ships counts in top tier squads, we see a increase in Scavenger Crane.

I will test out Scavenger Crane if I'm still using Dengaroo when it comes out, but my hopes are not high.

As a ending thought I myself don't actually like Glitterstim on Dengaroo, I prefer Inertial Dampeners but that's another discussion.

Hope this helps!

Lone Wolf Dash with Rey, Countermeasures, HLC, and Outrider, paired with Miranda or Norra. Kill a ship, get back Countermeasures.
