Breach weapon quality and soak

By GoldenGuard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Alright, I know that the Breach weapon quality is not common and is mostly found in explosives and lightsabers but I just want to double check that what i have read is right as it seems just a bit OP

lets just run through an theoretical example, the group encounters a stalking Acklay [Nemesis] with a soak value of 12, a character or 2 whips out lightsabers with breach 1, so against those weapons the Acklay only effectively has a soak of 2 on successful hits

is this correct?

thanks in advance

yes it is.

breach ignores 1 Armor or 10 Soak (it's the same)

that is why Lightsabers are dangerous and evil BBG-Killers.

but of course you can make it harder for those wanna-be-jedis.

Cortosis on a armor counters breach and pierce by totally negating it!

an parry can also help alot for damage migiation.

So an Inquisitor with an soak of 8 and cortosis while having parry Rang 3 won't be damaged so easy. (as long as his strain is up too the task ^^)

If you have just started with Edge of Empire/ Age of rebellion - Corerules just stick to them and don't hand the sabers to players (the Eote lightsaber is a fully tricked out Illumcrystal saber that shouldn't be handed to beginners)

If you play already with the Force and Destiny book you see that most Lightsaber start with a low damage rating that can be used in an early stage of the game.

But yes Breach on lightsabers (or heavy repetearblasters) is a good way to clean the way, and that is ok since the players will feel good by mowing down minions and start wetting themself once such a weapon apears on the other side of the table.
