Join Me!

By Stenun, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Given the animosity some players seem to have to the idea of a Traitor mechanic in Arkham Horror - and animosity towards Joining The Winning Team, too - I was wondering what people thought of Nyaralthotep's Sinister Plot card Join Me! ... ?

We were playing a 4 Investigator 2 Player game earlier (i.e. two players had 2 Investigators each so it technically counted as a 4 player game) and Join Me! came up ... we were only 2 successes away from winning the game anyway but I just HAD to ... ! I HAD to! It was funny! No seriously, it was! *muttermuttergrumble*

Hey, the option was there and you took it. If the investigators managed to win, then you would lose. Otherwise... it's your choice to join the Crawling Chaos!

I don't like the traitor mechanic all too much but would be impressed if someone managed to pull of Winning Team and prevent me from winning.

I like it as an appropriate Plot for the Great Meddler, but generally dislike it for exactly the traitorous intent you suggest. (But it's no more of a odd trip than Bokrug's "plot".) I would prefer to spin "Join Me" in such a way that everyone has to make some kind of "Resolve Check"; those that fail accept the treacherous offer, but then Nyarlathotep blasts their Sanity or Clues or something, laughing, "Like I would let you."

Nah. If there's a traitor element, the investigators should at least be allowed to choose for themselves. Forcing them to make a check to resist it or else they give in is just another check-based danger, like any they could have befallen.

Well, I did say "prefer", and you said, "IF there's a traitor element..." So I agree with both of us. If traitors are to be an option, by all means should it be voluntary and spontaneous. But because I don't appreciate traitors in Arkham, I would prefer my Plot card to be edited to resemble a "betrayal event" I could stomach.

If you wanna backstab your cooperative buddies, get out of my Arkham and go play Battlestar Galactica. gui%C3%B1o.gif

i think its fun, it would likely happen as well, faced with a near unbeatable enemy? join them and live :)

Right. I don't like the traitor element, but it's so incredibly rare that it would be fun to see it get effected.
