Phoenix Home Expansion Pack

By SirDave, in Star Wars: Armada

Is anyone else really looking forward to having a moderately priced 3 Squadron ship that doesn't look so bad that you refuse to field it because then you will regret having to look at it for hours?

It has opened up so many possibilities for my fleet builds...

Officer

Support Team

Offensive Retro

Ordinance

Fleet Command

Possibly 2x of one.

So, easy to pump to squadron 4. I expect it will probably rob the AFmk2 of most of it's carrier rolls. Not all. But most.

Flight commander, FCT, EHB. Push 4 Bwings along. Uncreative but effective

The question is going to be there: "With the unique Fleet command slot, and the seeming plethora of Dice and Upgrades it has... Is it going to be Moderately Priced?"

Darn it I thought the article was up

Click bait. I thought the article was up, not an opinion piece on the looks of Rebel ships.

I was excited for about 2 seconds until I started reading the post.

Yes I find the Interdictor overpriced but I think the experimental upgrades are underpriced so it sort of balances out.

You pay the interdictor tax to use the cheap upgrades. It may be the same with a pricy Phoenix but with some cheap upgrade cards.

I am really curious about this ship. So much potential.

I am a bit bummed though that it has the strong front arc rather than broadsides.

Then there would truly be no reason to take the AF...

Phoenix Home has no turbolaser slot. Gonna be hard to push damage with this ship without it.

Though expanded launchers makes it a wierd child of a GSD and a carrier.

Yeah SirDave what in the heck?

When I saw the title of your post, my anticipation, my joy, my excitement were at the highest levels!

Then I clicked on the news. nothing?

Then I clicked on your post.

Deflation. We need to work on your titles. :)

Nitpick time - when I think of the "Fleet Command" upgrade, I feel like its out of place on a small cruiser like the Pelta. It seems to me that most of the time command ships are the biggest, baddest ships in the group so really the MC80 variants should have this upgrade slot.

Nitpicking the Nitpick.

"Phoenix Home" was the biggest, baddest ship in its fleet. The Phoenix Cell. Which otherwise consisted of itself, a collection of Transports, and CR90 Corvettes.

There, I fixed it.

I'm sure there were larger ships that acted as command ships, and thus could hold the "Flee Command" upgrade slot. I think the larger ships should have one, but this is in hindsight now. Honestly, an arguement can be made for every ship that gets a new slot, saying it should be on a different ship. But if FFG did that, how would they come up with new and unique mechanics that make the ship worth playing? I bet if an ISD could hold the "Experimental Upgrade" slot, everyone would run those.

It may be unthematic, but it is a great way to introduce new upgrades.

The home one title is very fleet commandy

I like the shape, but I can't stand the coloring scheme. Compared to the other ships it looks cartoony. And yes, I know it's from Rebels, but the red and orange just do not fit well, so it's going to be the first ship that I have to repaint.

All but the G-8 are lower prices, with the G-8 at 8.

With the exception of the Targeting Scrambler, I really wish they went in an entirely different direction with the Interdictors Experimental Retrofit speed-oriented upgrades. Armada doesn't need less movement; even the fastest ships in the game moving at max speed for 6 turns can barely cross the width of the map. The design had to be conservative or movement controlling upgrades would be out of control and ruin the game, so the Interdictor falls victim to having to avoid breaking the game with speed controlling upgrades. I know they are thematic, but they could have done other things to keep the movement theme for the gravity wells and make them more useful and less annoying.

They really should issue another Interdictor title or more Experimental Retrofit upgrades.

I pointed this out before and a lot of people got upset. Plus, the ship is supposed to be smaller than an MC30, and it looks like it is larger. So there goes the sliding scale.

But the Interdictor was designed to grab ships out of hyperspace and to slow them down/prevent them from retreating. What other things could they have done and still held true to its roots?

Thought it looked much nicer in person than it does in the pictures.

I'll save all conversations until there is an actual article out that gives us more than a tease. Until then it's just a conversation for bored people. (Maybe we all need more hobbies?)

Another Interdictor upgrade I could see is something like this:

After obstacle set up, the owner of the upgrade places a token on the board. When an enemy vessel performs a maneuver within 3(?) of the token, they must subtract 1 point of maneuverability, if possible.

or maybe even:

After obstacle set up, the owner of the upgrade places a token on the board. When an enemy vessel performs a maneuver within 3 of the token, they must subtract 1 point of maneuverability at each speed that the maneuver ruler clicks away from the token.

Either it would make it a little harder to turn in the zone, or much harder to turn away from the zone. Something like that anyway.

Where's the money for that?

Idle talk is Free.

Probably 60 range for that command frigate.

The question is going to be there: "With the unique Fleet command slot, and the seeming plethora of Dice and Upgrades it has... Is it going to be Moderately Priced?"

Just on stats, the nearest equivalent is the Gladiator 2. Same hull and tokens, but 1 less shield. Same front arc, but only half the side arcs. 2 aa dice, but one is black. Similar upgrade options, except for fleet command. Better squadron and engineering values.

So at least the black die version should be in the GSD IIs neighborhood.

The GSD-II is only 10 points cheaper than an AFMK-IIB

Is that going to be a huge difference between Moderately priced or not?

Because, I mean, Perhaps I'm Crazy - but I already thought the AFMK-IIB was moderately priced...
