this has been on my mind for months now.

I remember a story from my childhood, but only vague details.

Basically, a boy travels... somewhere, i believe an abandoned castle of sorts. while staying, he hears noises at night, that scare him. He paints Cats on the wall, and then hides in a small space for one night. During the night he hears terrifying noises of battle, and when he wakes up, theres demons(or something?) dead in the castle, and the cats he painted on the wall have blood on their claws and teeth, and they protected him in the night from the "creatures"

I cant find anything on my own, but my google-fu is week.

For some reason i think it might be an Asian myth?

as a very young child it was in a bed time story compilation CD i listened to to go to sleep, and those are long since given to charity.

I've been trying forever to find a copy of a book where toys come to life and there is two groups of them one evil and one good and they fight. They came from the same toy store. It was illustrated all throughout. The good guys were led by a Teddy Bear with a blue sweater and the bad guys by some creepy guy in a black hat as I recall. This was a long long time ago sadly.
