Fly Backward

By Graeme Lyon, in X-Wing

I'll just leave this here...

Edited now that I've read the article:

Interesting little ship, and some rather tasty upgrades. Feels like it's designed almost solely to cause mischief and cause your opponent headaches... which absolutely makes it my kind of ship. The ability to tractor friendly ships also makes it a potentially brilliant repositioning tool. Promising.

That is a WEIRD frigging dial. That's the first ship to have a turn and straight of a given speed but no banks. And max speed of 3. Really not sounding like it's wowing me.

But

3 reverse manoeuvres.

But.

No stop manoeuvre.

And.

No BoShek reveal.

Zuvio is going to be hilarious.

Mostly this feels like it's going to be an annoying troll, but not actually much of a fighter.

Not sure I'll get more than one.

This thing is going to be weird as hell. Reverse maneuvers, Space Tug Tractor Array letting you tractor beam your own ships to move them around, A Score to Settle being pretty ok I guess, Constable Zuvio's ability, and the Scavenger Crane...

Scavenger crane is really cool

But greens are speed 2 & 3 forward....but can bank reverse....

This is litterally going to be doing 3-point turns, isn't it?

i'm glad to see it has a speed 3 green straight. It makes sense that it has at least some pretensions to speed.

At 15 points, it's a nice little swarm ship - and with the crew and tech it can afford to reverse quite a lot (outlaw tech! Because Uttini for the win, and running away is a jawa speciality)

The ability to tractor people as an action sounds....faintly ridiculous. The ability to fling your own ships around could also (in some wierd niche cases) be useful.

The constable's ability to reverse away and drop a bomb is....silly but cool. The fact that he's PS7 is impressive, and the EPT opens up potential. He only has a single bomb slot, though, so you need to think carefully what you want to do.

Scavenger crane is definitely cool. "Where the hell did they get a heavy laser cannon?" "Jeff, sir."

The fact that it's not Quadjumper specific is interesting. The idea of a Party Buss stealing a Twin Laser Turret off someone, for example, is amusing and terrifying in equal measure.

It might even be worth a thought for rebels - A smuggling Compartments Dash Rendar could potentially pick up a 'spare' cannon this way, for example. Having a cheap Attack Shuttle with an Autoblaster Turret is not a 'bad' choice, but having that bloody AB turret slot into Dash's 'donut hole' is.....concerning.

"Soontir! Get in close where the heavy laser can't target you! You'll be safe!"

"....To an extent."

Some cool Scummy stuff in there. Defo a pack I'll be getting for the cards more than the actual ship, but it'll be fun to try out.

Scavenger Crane is gonna be neat though. Not sure where it's useful, however, especially as it doesn't work on illicits. 2 points is a lot to pay for what it does - but what it does is worth paying for, perhaps. And that action-tractor-beam is sweeeeeet.

This ship is annoying and stupid. It's perfect.

I'd say on bomb/munition-heavy Scum ships it'll be great, Note how it's ANY ship gets destroyed at range 1-2. So you can replenish your munitions even when a friendly ship gets killed.

This thing is gonna be troll-tastic - but I worry that the majority of its trolling is range 1 and based on actions and bombs, neither of which is especially conducive to getting to do those things before someone blows you sky-high in your 5 hull 2 agi crit magnet.

Which ones, though. Scum bombers are this, Ys and Firesprays, plus Aggressors like anyone ever takes bombs on those, and Ys don't have Illicit. Scum missile carriers... Kihraxz maybe might use this to replenish its missiles. Headhunters just MAYBE.

It seems like it sounds a lot cooler than it is. It would be a LOT cooler if it worked on Illicits as well; re-equippable Cloaking Device would make up for the dice-related BS of that poor upgrade.

If there were any Scummies that likes Stealth Device it might be good for that, soo.

Scavenger Crane on Dengaroo. Dengar spends his Countermeasures, kills a ship, then uses Scavenger Crane to pick them back up again. Makes Dengaroo an even harder matchup for swarmy lists, wonderful.

Scavenger Crane will be stupid good on Dengaroo.

Mmmm.... maybe.

Costs him Glitterstim don't forget, and that's an important part of his ability to take a couple of rounds of fire if the opponent manages to lock Manaroo down.

Primed Thrustors will be glued to this guy. Pattern Analyzers would be good but since it has no green 1 moves, its likely it wont want to use its greens after backing up so its still going to be stressed, PA wont help with that.

Behold, the reason Primed Thrustors only has 1 copy in the HOTR box!

Dont get why the tugboat has hyperwave for its included tech. I dont think i'd ever want that on it.

Doubt this guy is ever going to be spammed, or even in pairs, since its underwhelming as hell outside the tractor lulz. Both the revealed named pilots (didnt miss the 3rd guy did i?) are just complete trolls. Unkar and the mod are both going to be annoying, to the point where im positive hes going to get evaporated first not because hes deadly but because hes ANNOYING AS HELL lol.

Being able to freely drop an action bomb when backing up is awesome, and the crane is cool though not sure if i'd bother since like i said this guy is going to draw a ton of attention.

That mod is seriously dickish lol. Action: throw someone onto a rock and reduce agility. No dice, just action lol. It does have an arc restriction though so its not a complete bs card, but i could see bringing a cheapo tugboat literally for this mod alone lol. Remember, you dont have to actually put them on the rock if you tractor before they moved. Behind the rock will do :D

Also it'd be funny if you could put hera on there. Permanent backing up noises....

So, does Soontir Fel do anything any more?

EDIT: Also really bummed the Crane doesn't work with Illicits (likely by adding another slot), or at the very least instead of listing all those upgrades just say "bombs, Modifications, and secondary weapons" and help the poor Hot Shot Blaster. :(

Explode, mostly.

Edit: Never mind, apparently I can't read!

Zuvia + Bombadier + Proton Bomb will be both hilarious, and a huge target so as to free up my other ships shootin' time while my opponent fires on Constable Annoyingpants.

An action tractor beam? Yes. Please.

Oh, it can work on friendlies as well. Even better.

So, does Soontir Fel do anything any more?

It does feel like anti-fel tech has been showing up a LOT in the past couple of waves.

But it's OK, the Upsilon will help him a lot.

I'm pleased to be vindicated on what A Debt to Pay does, it's exactly what I thought it would be.

Countermeasures are a Mod so Scavenger Crane doesn't work on them.

Crane works on Mods. It's in the card text, just no icon for it.

Yes, it does. Read the card.

I already love the Constable. VI + Proton Bombs (or bomb of choice) + Scavenger Crane + Primed Thrusters (or PA) + Bombardier. Drop a bomb in someones lap, Reverse bank, then barrel roll out of their arc.
