Ruthless Strategists

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

I used it on a GSD 2 Demo while testing for world. It was in my list till the last day where I ditched it for OE and re worked points too add a interceptor squadron to my list. My usual go to was to use 3 squads of advanced and soontir to engage squads then have a GSD2 Demo double/triple tap into that fur ball and hand out hits where needed. I also had IG88 to hunt aces and take some RS hits to kill Jan/Dengar if needed while shooting with AA from GSD2 Demo.

Honestly a GSD2 Demo with the right tricks and set up can really bring the pain to squads and surprise ppl how effective it is. just need to build around it and have a plan. Very versatile.

Counterpoint:

QLT + RS is useless against Rhymer and Imperials do not have the Mothma + Evade combo to force them to close. Unless you have a way to project force in the squadron game, a Rhymerball will sit back and plink you to death.

That's not to say QLT is useless, but rather, don't build around something so easily countered. It's a nice to have, but you need more than just that, and if you are going with RS, you need a plan to spam a ton of squadron hull onto the board.

I've been using Ruthless Strategists for a while now, in every way imaginable and have come to love them, especially in our squad-heavy meta. They have literally won me multiple games recently. My lists are almost always heavily influenced by their inclusion. They are devastating to any Empire list with 3 hull squads, are excellent for killing or finishing off aces, and rarely a liability when your squadron choices are made to fit their use. It's by far the best way to quickly kill the most PITA squad in game, Mauler, even when he's protected by Escort.

You have to use certain ships and upgrades and squads to get value out of them, but they are close to my favorite upgrade right now.

How many ships have your found it effective to run them on?

I second the use of demo glad two, this ship can rip a fighter ball apart, especially if you get to do a last first number , with kallus you can put 12 blue on aces and 8 on everything else. Ruthless works well with instigator as he needs an escort to stop bombers tearing him apart. Fly in instigator with his escorts, pinning everything, Wack them with demo, then hit them with instigator and then leg it.

Rebel side, Rieekan could get a lot of mileage out of this.

Ive had the most success with one ship having Ruthless. Ive tried many many incarnations of 2 and 3 ship fleets with Ruthless, but the fleets ended up being very odd, with lots of chunky squads (YT1300s, YV31s) that suck horribly vs no squad lists or low squad lists. But boy oh boy did they rip up squad lists.

The only issue ive had using one ship with ruthless is that it had to fly tight with the squad battle and it can often die before it gets to fire a AS barrage. Rieekan helps fix this a lot and thats what I used last week at a regional. It did great vs everything but a squadless CR90 swarm. :(

Thanks. I've had a go at making it work but don't get enough games in to really road-test it. I've been convinced that there's a great build in there somewhere (obvious great synergy with Rieekan Aces).

GSD II, Demo, RuthlessS + Squadron Command. How to kill 5 tie Advanced in one activation.

The first time i encountered this i lost two full HP firesprays way back Wave 2. Now that MUS is everywhere im going to run it again. The issue was that it would not suit each matchup. Well now it does in many places.

When reading this card, I can't help but think of this scene in Braveheart (1995):

Okay, tangent made. You may carry on. :D

Typical Empire Bias...

An Imperial Officer does, it, and its all, "Look at that great example, willing to do what it takes for the Greater Good..."

A Rebel Officer does the same thing, and its all, "Look at the terrorist!."

Sheesh. Can't ever catch a break.

Maybe it's because the Rebel officer is - by definition - a terrorist, rather than the duly designated agent of the legitimate governing authority in the galaxy.

RS does seem un-rebel.... rebels seem to me to want to do things straight up or not at all.... ruthless is not in the rebel dictionary

Ruth is the name of the strategy officer that's really into dating star fighter pilots. When she's around she always convinces the captain it's a bad idea to risk hurting their own squadrons.

When the ship is Ruth-less the other strategists just say "to hell with em" and fire into the fur ball.

You disappoint me.

Considering, at Vyke's insistance, I was already transferring a very common Character from another system to a Star Wars RP narrative... I am now giving that Captain an XO called "Ruth", who is constantly ill with Space-Flu...

I'm surprised it is not Imperial only. but then again the rebels did side with cannibalistic Ewoks.

Is there proof that Ewoks ate Ewoks?

They can only be Cannibalistic if that happens...

a HUMOUR site? Mikael, ma bookie.... Has the mouthpiece of Imperial Oppression stooped so low as to rely on the half-baked inquisitions of humour as their "Truth".... For shame. For Shame... It's truth if the Empire says it's true.
