The new Beregond and his toys

By Flrbb, in Strategy and deck-building

Well, I want to build a deck around that spirit version on Beregond (plus Desperate Defense and Livery of the Tower). But I do not see a perfect fit. Please help/enlighten me.

Here are my thoughts so far:

I think, lately most strikes deal round about 5 damage. That is why I want some additional shields (a Desperate Defense every now and then is probably not save enough). Also, Livery of the Tower will cost lots of resources, so want to go for at least two spirit heroes.

First thing which came to my mind was Gondorian Shield. So, I'd go for red/blue. Because of resources (and what to do with the two other Shields) I think about Arwen and most probably the new Eowyn. With this setup, the deck would have roughly 3 Shields, 3 Livery of the Tower, 3 Snowmane and 3 Herugrim/Golden Shield as base setup, which are allreaday a lot attachment cards and can only be attached to a one and only hero card. Most of my decks do suffer from to much hero-shengeniangs. This is something I want to avoid this time.

So, second thing was Armored Destrier, but because Livery of the Tower is restricted you could only attach one horse to that hero. But there is also The Day's Rising, a very nice card. In the case of leadership/spirit I cannot think of anything else than Cirdan and Arwen, again. (Most leadership heroes are for defending, but that for the deck has Beregond. Probably Aragorn would be another choice.) With Narya, I'd have my leadership icon and also enough power to ready some allies and strike back. So far my most promising setup.

Or, should I go for a lore hero, just because of Protector of Lorien? In that case I could use a hint on a lore hero for setup.

You see, I still miss the base concept for a deck to start building one.

Also, I wonder whether Blood of Numenor is superior to Livery of the tower?!

Looking up decks on ringsdb.com I do see a lot of wild stuff, but mostly Caldra decks and (of course) decks with tactics Eowyn. But then, most of them also include Theoden, so I'd oppress Eowyn because of all the Rohan toys would match up better on him than on her. So long story, short: none of these decks are like "I want them, now!".

Maybe some of you are able to straighten up my thoughts. Please discuss!

Blood of Numenor is superior to Livery of the Tower for straight defense if you have more than 2 resources -- but Livery of the Tower has the advantage that it can cancel direct damage from any source.

It's true that Day's Rising would feed Livery, and Destrier would allow him to ready for another, shadow-free defense. Dunedain Warnings can cheaply boost his defense. Errand-rider can transfer resources to Beregond. Steward of Gondor can really churn out the resources. Monosphere spirit with Nenya for leadership would make it so that you couldn't play your leadership until it shows up. You could go with a good attacker like LeAragorn, or LeDenethor for extra resources and the ability to feed Beregond, or Balin for shadow protection, or Celeborn to use Silvan allies, or Hirluin to use Outlands allies, or Theodred for extra resources to himself or SpEowyn.

Is this a solo deck? If so, you either need a killing hero or strong attacking allies. SpBeregond/SpEowyn/TaGimli would work well once powered up. SpBeregond/TaEowyn/<tactics> could pay for killing allies, and could also pay for Honour Guard to help keep Beregond safe. SpBeregond/TaEowyn alone could start and stay in secrecy and take advantage of that.

Tri-sphere you could have your leadership cake and tactics too. LeDenethor-SpBeregond-TaEowyn is defense heavy, but Denethor can feed Beregond's livery during the game and get some questing help out too. Sam-SpBeregond-TaEowyn could quest well, and take advantage of Sam's ability to help attack newly engaged enemies, or serve as an emergency defender.

If you want to go with the lore option, Grima/Beregond/SpEowyn would save resources and allow Beregond to undo some of Grima's damage. Beravor could give you card draw. Haldir could kill enemies whether you engage them or not. LoPippin provides a low starting threat and when-engaged card draw. Treebeard could provide your killing hero.

Hello Flrbb,

I was in the same situation. I got the flame of the west and just wanted to build a deck with the new versions of Beregond and Eowyn. Together with a friend I built a deck including the two and Theoden (tactic). The deck was built for multiplayer, because I seldom play solo. This deck was ok, but not that what I wanted. So we tried Theoden (spirit). Also ok... Then another friend bulit a deck just for supporting this deck. And that was really good. We replaced Theoden by Beravor because of carddraw, but the best choice is Galadriel (in our opinion).

Today we played Conflict at the carrock nightmare, Return to mirkwood nightmare and morgul vale (normal mode), and we were successful at the first try.

Eowyn was questing with 10-15 willpower, Beregond was defending everything.

These were the decks:

Thanks for your deck lists.

Quite off topic, but right now I am - again - glad that I do have the english version of the game. Seriously "Überzähliger Kapuzenmantel", "Schild von Gondor", "Unerwarteter Mut" these are not the best translations. Do these card names sound also stupid for a native english speaker?

I am german and in my opinion the translations aren't so bad. :)

... Gondorianisches Schild?! Schild aus Gondor? ...

Ok, Gondorianischer Schild would has been better, but the others are ok.
