Fighter Storage

By mcworrell, in Star Wars: Armada

I know there are many posts on storage, but I haven't seen many on just fighters. So...here is a fighter storage question.

I currently have a very fancy cardboard box I keep all of my Armada ships and squadrons in. I keep the ships in the plastic the come in to protect them and then I store my fighters, assembled under my large based ships. This has worked ok with the core set, 2 rogues and villains and one rebel and one empire....but I just bought an additional rebel and empire set and find myself out of room. With wave 5 coming out soon, we all hope, I need some ideas...and space.

The question for all of you is, how do you store your squadrons? Seoerate cases? Assembled? Disassembled? I'm looking for ideas.

I use a tackle box for my little ships, squadrons, squadron bases, and cards.

I typically store the bases all jumbled together in one of the big plastic containers that an ISD or the Home One came in. I find those make decent storage devices.

I have the fighters assembled in the small rows of the tackle box, sorted by fighter type and faction.

I've put mien and all my materials in the core box. I plan on buying a second core set and storing the tools and materials as such in one box and all the fighters in another. I just leave my main capitals and ships on a shelf.

I'm a biologist/scientist so I reuse pipette tip boxes. I can fit 6 without any trouble, and I can lay several more in between the 6 to fit close to 12 in a single box. I also use these for all my tokens and small/medium ships.

Wow - hilariously genius! :)

I use the Stanley click and connect boxes. It's perfect as you can store them all on their bases. Makes setup really easy.

Stanley 3 in 1 toolbox, one for each faction. The fighters are fully assembled and stored separated by type into the little compartments.

Good idea guys...going to have to do some shopping. I have been trying not to spend money on storage....but it is getting to the point where I can't ignore it any longer.

I have a toolbox lined in foam where I keep all the squads assembled. I may need to reorganize them, half assembled and limit the bases I keep just to save on space soon.

I store the stand off the base: quick and easy to put back together, but efficient for storage. I have a small storage box with a sheet of upholstery foam cut to fit the interior, then cut slits to put the stands in. The bases I just stick in a pile in another tray.

I use a Plan 3740 tackle box, and it hold so far, two core sets, and two each of the fighter sets with some room to spare. I've got three R&V sets in another small Plano box, a 3640 if I remember right.

I use Sir Wilibald's microhangars. Cost: some card stock, printer usage, and your time. They protect and sort very well, especially if you're using the core box.

I use Feldherr Foam in GW plastic storage cases. Stores all my ships and squadrons. You can get a foam insert for about 5euro and it neatly fits 12 fighters complete on stand.

Those work? What if they are outside the core box, (ie my 2 year old nephew runs head long into my gaming table and one falls off)? I swear, teh kid wants to be a linebacker for the Bears. He has knocked a number of things by ramming furniture. Never gotten his paws on anything, but....

I bought a collection that came with the Feldherr foam in their cardboard box. I have since bought another one for Wave2-4 and now I am looking for a suitable plastic box (too, fishing, etc) to house all the foam in one secure place.

Plano tackle boxes. I paid $40 Canadian for my current box, and inside there is a large empty spot in the bottom I keep all my ships and bases as well as obstacles, plus the top is 2 sets of 3 tier trays with dividers where I keep all my tokens, discs, fighters, dice, cards, etc. Everything fits up until now, including 2 core, plus a USD, 2 GSD, Int, gozanti, 2 raiders, 2 Imp fighters, 2 rebel fights, 2 mc30s, 1 transport, 1 command and 1 battle cruiser, an assault frigate and rogues. I'm out of space now owning 1 or 2 of everything but a second of the same will do the trick

Well, they're not going to stop a 2 year old at all. They're better for protecting the stands while inside an actual hard case. What they do is keep the fighters together if they fall out of the stands, keep the paint jobs from getting rubbed off, and make organization very easy. I've put the boxes inside some planter trays (actually lego advent calendar trays) to make room in my core box, and it protects them all right (though a bit awkward).

The old Games Workshop plastic storage boxes mate. Pick them up 2nd hand on ebay.

They fit the Feldherr foam perfectly.

I use SirWillibald's carrier boxes - 1 for Imperial and 1 for Rebel. In the space of 8 of the individual boxes I can store the relevant parts of the core set, 2 squadron packs and 3 Rebel & Villains. So very space efficient but my squadrons are unpainted so I wouldn't suggest it for anyone with painted squadrons as the squadrons trees are all off the bases and crammed in together.

I use SirWillibald's boxes for all my ships and they do a great job. Obviously they then need to be stored in larger boxes. At home I use the original Core set box and 2 Really Useful plastic 4L boxes for storage and then a smaller plastic box for travelling (or one of the 4L if I need to take ISD's) to play. The cardboard boxes protect the ships surprisingly well from bumps and knocks.
