"Better" tractor beam against large ships

By IG88E, in X-Wing

How about if you're tractor beamed you can't shoot outside your arc (cos the tractor beams locks your turrets)?

I think it should be something that affects all large ships and not only the ones with turret

What if it also stopped you firing missiles or torpedos, or moving your mobile arc? That doesn't leave much.

The tractor beam as it is already defies Newtons laws. Lets not make things any worst by having small ships pull large ships towards them or any other shenanigans as a mater of fact.

Tractor beam canon should have been a huge ship only upgrade to begin with.

Nah, it's fine. I talked with Mr Newton and he was okay with the Tractor Beam after I explained to him how

- starfighters maneuver in vaccum as if they were in atmoshpere.

- starships maneuver in vaccum as if they were floating in water.

- sound transmits thru vaccum.

- ships jump from one point in the galaxy to another in matter of seconds.

- light swords have a finite blade.

- the Force works.

- lasers behave nothing at all like lasers.

- the Starkiller base can fire red stuff at planets, and the whole galaxy can see it at realtime.

- the Starkiller base can swallow a star hundreds of time bigger than itself, then explode leaving behind a star as small as itself.

"That tractor beam sounds fine, then", he said. And he kept on spinning in his grave. When I left, Mr Tesla had attached a few magnets and a coil on him, and was lighting up the whole neighborhood with Mr Newton's spinning.

You win the internet!

Being able to move a big ship though would be insanely powerful. The reason people flip out about barrelroll on a large ship is because it moves it so much its insane. A TB effect on a large ship would bring it from nearly range3 to poking into range1.

Still think large ships should have some other ill effect though. Not really sure what that would make sense...

Perhaps barrel roll for larger ships should have worked like this:

I should have removed the stats for that, or at least set them. Looks very amateur as it is...

Boosting, too. Forward only, width of a template only.

Personally I would've preferred Tractor Beams to increase the difficulty of a maneuver. Green turns white, white turns red. Then discard the TB token at the end of the next activation phase.

Ah well. Maybe pull yourself towards a ship as a choice.

I think the entire tractor bean mechanic was back to front in the first place

Having a Tractor Beam token (on any size ship) should have PREVENTED the use of repositioning abilities like Boost, Barrel Roll or SLAM.

"reduce agility by 1, a ship with one or more Tractor Beam tokens may not perform Bosost, Barrel Roll or SlAM actions. Diacard all Tractor Beam tokens following your next activation."

I think thats a much better thematic mechanic for tractors. How would you move around as though nothing happened after a tractor just grabbed you?

Not sure if i'd be happy with the change though. I love re-positioning people lol

Yeah, slinging other ships around, into/ouy of arc and onto obstacles is a lot of fun for the Tractor Beam player, not so much for the player of the ship that's been hit though lol

Could be worse.

Im all for mechanics that are an inconvenience to the other player, i hate mechanics that literally rob a player of their turn though.

For this reason i despise Ions and i really hope Magpulse is never a thing. They effectively deny you your turn.

I think a tractor beam token should have made your next maneuver a white 0. Locking a ship in place would be interesting.

Probably to near an ion token but you could keep the negative agility bit.

That would be flatout broken. Even if they didnt start adding ways to simply assign tractor tokens, you'd see tractors everywhere.

Any ship that isnt 3agi has a really high chance of being in the same spot the entire game while *insert Ace here* flies around them and peppers them to death with 0 retaliation.

I like the whole mechanic of tractor beam. It is just not entirely fair that large ships have to suffer less for no reason (instead of game mechanics). They should get another second punishment instead of repositioning.
