Quad G1-As

By Kreen, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Has anyone tried out this list before? I'd be curious to see how/if it works. It's a lot of hull and shield to chew through, and the tacticians lend an element of control, but I'm not sure if the restrictive dials will kill any potential.

"Panic Attack" was a thing back in the day: multiple B-Wings with Tacticians and a "Stress Hog" Y-Wing with R3-A2, ocassionally with an Ion Cannon/Turret thrown in. G1-A's lose Barrel Roll but gain Evade. It's worth trying, though I don't think it quite stacks up to today's meta.

Funny, I was playing with the same idea today on Fab's Squadron Builder myself, along the same lines but with two Kihraxz Fighters with it instead.

No reason not to throw collision detectors on them. But I like the idea.

With the combination of Systems Slot, Elite Slot, Evade action and Elite Pilot Talent, the available combination of Sensor Jammer, Juke, and Hotshot Copilot looks like it might be worth a look. Annoyingly you can't fill out a squad with them, though, as they're a touch over 33 points.

Sensor Jammer and HSCP is a weird combo, because it makes the sensor jammer nonfunctional if they have a focus token...

I think its not ideal upgrades, but it does leave the opponent with some tough decisions. Go all in on offense or try defense at severly restricted offense? To focus or not to focus, that is the question.

My experience with a couple G1A's with Snap shot has been that the maneuvers are MUCH worse. BWings were really good with tactician due to the awesome K turns and keeping someone at range 2. With a 3 and 4, the G1A is a little too fast for this same type of strategy. 4 might be better to get more arcs, but I don't think the evade is better than the barrel roll when it comes to arc adjusting and tactician.

The lack of a barrel roll for the G1-A's (minus the title, of course) makes it harder to fly. You're trading the evade for the roll, when comparing G1-A's to B-wings.

There's something for some Mindlinks / Jukes on the Gands (PS5, EPT) but it gets expensive quick.

It doesn't leave them a choice at all, that's the point. If they shoot first, they're spending the focus on offence. If you shoot first, they're spending it on defence and the sensor jammer has a chance to work. But expecting to shoot first with a G1A is... probably not going to work.
