European Championships - Awesome!

By IceQube MkII, in Star Wars: Armada

I literally may book accommodation now. I'm almost certainly going to go. If I go to Regionals here, I'm almost certainly going to have to skip Nationals as a result, but this is spaced enough apart that I could probably do it. My Regionals is probably going to be X-wing due to there not being any official talk of an Armada Regionals for Ireland yet (that I've seen, at least), so I'll possibly jump codes to Armada for Europeans.

I would book now, the hotel I normally stay in for the EXPO is fully booked and we have had to relocate to a different one. All the hotels in the immediate vicinity are full or nearly full.

a lot has to happen for me not being there, sounds great.

and thx for info about booking urgency!

as has been said above accommodation for the event is booking up very fast I have found a B&B close and a ok price. but most places wanted £575+ for 2 nights

I may just book the place I stayed in for Nationals. It was right beside the ICC, which I know is nowhere near the NCC, but it was also within walking distance of the train station and several good places to eat. I'd rather spend an extra tenner on the taxi each way, than spend an extra hundred on a hotel that's a few miles closer.

On the topic of the Pacific Rim: I have personally played Armada in Singapore, though I can't speak to how big the community is there.

I know Australia has a totally bonkers community and that their National champion is allegedly also a crack shot in IA who destroyed Darth Vader with a blaster bolt to the junk, but that's just an unconfirmed rumor...

In short: more world support is great for the community and for FFG. I think this is a move that continues to show they are serious about doing it right for all of the Star Wars games.

OMG, I'm so in for this!

On a side note, is really 130+ pounds the regular price for one single hotel room for one night up there?

I paid less than 120 for 2 nights for the nationals tourney... must be expo frenzy.

Just booked accommodation in the city centre, half hour away by train. £90 for two nights (you can get it for £81, but that was no refund). Laughably bad reviews. God, I love a crap hotel.

Really looking forward to this. This will be my first time at the Expo and first time at a tournament bigger than a store championship. Hoping to put some forum names to faces.

Ah, England and your CRAP hotels, how I have missed you...

On the topic of the Pacific Rim:...

Is it trolling to suggest that Vancouver, WA is also on the Pacific Rim?

Would an event in Hawaii be considered Pacific Rim, or Pacific Core?

Is there any real utility to talking about a Pacific Rim in the context of games which mostly thrive on local communities, rather than the ability of ships to go from one port to another?

(I'm looking forward to the meme that Dras will use to shout me down.)

What's the deal with accommodation? Reckon you would need two nights, or does the event run over two days and can be done in one night away? Just thinking about how to sell this to my wife...

A daft question:

Is this a 2-day event for Armada? Day 1 Swiss and day 2 elimination?

Another daft question:

I would have to get an X-day pass for the Expo (starting Dec 1st) and then I would need to grab an Armada ticket when they go online later (in 2017)?

Edited by Green Knight

They may do it with two separate Swiss qualifying days on Friday & Saturday, each putting through 2 or 4 players.

You can only enter one of those qualifying days.

Then the final 4 or 8 play another event on the Sunday.

Daft Question #2 i can answer:

In the past (X-wing Nationals in 2015 and regionals in 2016) I had to buy an Expo pass (Single day =£13, 2 day = £22 or 3 day = £28) and then buy an entry ticket for the event on top. On the Expo website they list these prices as 1 day miniatures tournaments =£8 and 2 day =£16 but this does not specify if it is the European Championships for FFG or just "other" miniature tournaments.

Here is the link if you want to look: http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/tickets.php

ticket sale for armada online now. Out of 100 spots about 25 are already taken, if I remember correctly. Its a three day event, two days swiss and top 4 cut on Sunday. Also if I remember correctly :)

I have my ticket...but no place to sleep yet :)

Correction: 31/100 spots taken as of Monday morning.

With a Country the Size of it, even picking what is considered a centralised location in regards to amenities and population, can make it impossible for the majority.....

You'd think, being a large island, finding the central location would be relatively simple.

I mean, Central Location = Easy.

Central Location that doesn't involve having to dig your own personal trench latrine after Breakfast = Not So Easy.

Camping it's the only way as they don't whack up the prices at camp sites and you can all stay up late drinking under the stars. Three nights away with all the Local armada and xwing lads farting in a tent.....

Tickets and accommodation booked. I grabbed the hotel when the evernt was announced.

Really looking forward to it. This'll be my first event of this scale.

Part of me really wants to go, despite my price gripes, because we don't even have a store championship in Ireland to look forward to, nevermind a regionals. It'd be nice to get involved in a larger scale event than a game or two down at the FLGS.

34 spots taken.

I guess its safe to say that for many of us this will be the largest Armada tournament so far, and the hardest regarding competition, I am truly looking forward to it, as well as getting to know and play some of the members from this Forum.
