Who would win this duel?

By Hobbyist, in X-Wing

With the rise of countess Ryad, I 've been thinking about what ships could be equally effective in a similar role for the same price. Which got me thinking about one vs. one matches.

Got an interesting matchup? Denote who has initiative if you have a ps tie

Here's mine

Countess Ryad

PTL, x7, tie mk 2 36 points

Vs.

Ello Asty

Ptl, bb8, integrated, primed thrusters 36 points

I'd put my money on Ello, I think the ps advantage is too great. Either way, that is one game I'd like to see.

Ello will have a tough time actually sticking damage to Ryad. The reverse less so. I'd take Ryad any day in this matchup.

The dice would win long before Ello "but no damage" asty would

Countess wins every day of the week. Ello is either using bb8 and ptl (and not turning around) or doing white 3 rolls (and not using ptl). Neither of these sound particularly scary to a ship which has equal hp, more green dice, and focus/evade/target lock every turn while doing green 5k turns.

I don't really see how Ello is supposed to use his ability all that much with this build. In this specific match up it might be better to go with Snap. PtL, R2 Astro, PA and Autothrusters comes out to 36.

How does Ello get stressed in this battle. I would drop primed thrusters and go with something else. Like maybe Weapons Guidance for the extra attack or sensor cluster for D.

That Ello build is suboptimal against Ryad. For example any T-70 with PTL, vectored thrusters and R2 droid will eat Ryad alive, and that with minimum 30 points

To set the record straight, you can outplay the opponent all you want; youre not playing the dice

Ryad isALWAYS at an advantage, because it is easier to just control range and let t70 shots bounce harmlessly off of x7

The only t70s that will match her are regen poe or red ace

To illustrate this in a frustrating exercise, iencourage people to play SoT nien nub with PA and targeting

Against lower ps nonturrets, you hace ZERO EXCUSE to either arc dodge or smash into b2b to deny shots

Hes fun as hell, until you realize that dice will stonewall the **** out of you and that your efforts will be rendered pointless more often than not

Maybe I am thinking of different ships than you are speaking of but this sounds like a ridiculous statement to me. If countess loses to ANY t70 in a 1v1 to the death I'd be surprised no matter what the t70 build is. Countess will basically always have the maneuvering advantage because she has 5 speed green k turns that give her an evade token. If it comes down to a dice fight she wins anyway due to 3 agility and evade token. The t70 has to not just joust evenly, they have to outmanuever her. Good luck.

Or Black One title maybe? That would make one of Ryan's actions meaningless every turn. She locks on then he bb8 s when he moves.

title or not, I wouldn't use Ello's ability a whole lot in this match-up. I would take it in the rocks where there's fewer straight paths for Ryad's K-turns and bb8 allows Ello to hide behind rocks until the best opportunity.

In vacuum, without Black One in play, this match goes handily to Ryad's superior action economy. With Black One, I think it tips back towards Ello.

So upon second consideration, I think Ello would have the maneuvering advantage by far, but even with target lock and focus most turns, that token stack is hard to get past.

I still would like to play it out.

Anyone have another interesting matchup?

Aaron Burr, clearly. Oh wait you were asking about aother duel. Carry on.

I have to say that I beat the Countess with a Red Squadron Vet yesterday. I also readily admit that when we got down to 1 vs 1 his green dice left the game early while mine finally woke up. Such is the vagaries of throwing little plastic dice.

A lot of luck with the dice and a little bit of luck anticipating his moves and disguising mine.
