How is collectability treating you?

By TylerTT, in Star Wars: Destiny

As others have said, Uncommons are just Rares with no dice.

Two full booster boxes left me okay for the hero side but terrible for the villain side. Too many of my rares and legendary's are equipment rather than characters. I have no Rogue villains. After more than $200 I think I should be able to field more than 1 or 2 barely passable villain decks or have a stack of yellow villain cards that I can't really use. I think there needs to be a higher percentage of legendary/rare characters to equipment over what it currently is.

I agree with not buying loose packs but that's a turn off to many gamers; not everyone can pluck down hundreds of dollars for boxes. I work at a gaming store and it's hard for me to push individual booster sales when I know that they have very little value.

I think it should be more characters in general, and a lot more cards should be neutral with only specific cards (jedi council, sith holocron) tied to "hero" and "villain",

Even buying a box is no solution if you want a blue yellow villain discard deck, and all you get is red villains, yellow upgrades and blue heroes.

I feel like much of this would be avoided if they'd released 4 starter sets rather than just two, just to get people over that initial character lull.

Saying that, wasn't there that deleted tweet about Rogue One packs that got deleted? Maybe this won't be much of an issue soon.

I was so happy after pulling my first legendary Luke that I've bought 3 more boosters today and ... kaboom ... second Luke, Survival Gear and a Padawan. 18 boosters and 2x Luke.

My hate grows...it makes me strRRRROOONNNnnnngah!

That's a good point. Why is the blaster pistol Hero only?

This is a good point, too. My concern is that there are so many games out there nowadays, even compared to just 10 years ago, that I'm afraid customers will just move on rather than wait. It doesn't help that they went with a very tepid release schedule during the holiday season with an IP related movie coming out 3 weeks from release. I get calls at store about this game everyday but I have no control over release schedules. Interest will drop after the holidays because it always does. It's hard not to feel that an opportunity is being squandered here.

It's more complicated than that. Time is money in business. They wanted to get the game out before/by Black Friday weekend. So in the planning phase FFG had to guess when would be the best time to start manufacturing the game. If you start too early than product will have to sit in store rooms awaiting launch day. (This is an added expense) If you don't accurately predict possible problems and set backs in development, manufacturing, and shipping/distribution then you run the risk of limited product and/or missing launch deadlines.

More time than not, a company is going to error in the way FFG has. It is far more costly to sit on product and the "what ifs" of possible problems of manufacturing, shipping, and distribution are largely out of a developer's hands. You plan for the ideal, with a little wiggle room, to maximize returns and reduce cost.

Shortages of product at launch is nothing new, and if handled correctly, can become a simple temporary inconvenience to the customer when manufacturing, shipping, and distribution meets customer demands.

(And people say forums are a waste of time... We're discussing economics here! :P )

Opening boosters is as fun as playing! Only opened 8, and pulled two legendaries, both hero (Launch Bay/One With The Force) - great for the missus who is playing Rey/Leia vs my still starter Kylo/Trooper. Need more boosters.

Starting to get salty about this game now - have bought x1 of each starter and 19 boosters so far. Have only pulled one character - Rebel Trooper.

So I'm £80+ in and can't build any decks...

Time to start trading, there will be people with excess characters looking for the none character cards you pulled. I similarly drew very few characters one trade meet up and I know have a decent selection.

Excess characters are as rare as hens teath.

For a game where the primary requirement for decks are two or more compatible characters, the decision to make characters so hard to get feels like a big mistake. Reading about people who pay $100 for a box only to get two or three characters...

Excess characters are as rare as hens teath.

Tell that to my Veers x4 and Padme x4, from my first two booster boxes.

Poor distribution in booster boxes is why this problem exists.

No doubt, (not to mention the SEVEN Scout's I've pulled from 3.5 boxes. . .)

You can't make it to 30 cards? I find that hard to believe.

Uh... granted, it's probably not what you want to play but... 2x Starter Deck gives you enough to make a deck.

eFinn + eRey

eKylo + FO Trooper + FO Trooper

Like Poker, you need good cards to win, but doesn't mean you can't have fun with garbage cards. (Note: At this stage, I doubt many in the local scene have optimized decks unless they have put a lot of time, money and effort into it.)

Or one starter deck and less than $15 in singles nets you another FO Stormtrooper, a few Promotions and IQAs, and a handful of other commons to flesh out the Kylo deck. There's nothing wrong with the distribution model, just people's expectations.

Poor distribution in booster boxes is why this problem exists.

You mean actual random distribution as opposed to fixed distribution?

for those just buying a bunch of random boosters, you really put your luck to the test when opening single boosters and hoping for legendary's

your best bet if you plan on buying somewhere near the 30 pack range, you may as well just buy a box and get the guarunteed (or probably **** near guarunteed) 6 legendary's or just go buy the cards you want (you'll likely be better off and spend less money overall)

anyways, as to my luck

i opened 1 box tonight and got the following

1x Luke Skywalker
2x Nightsister
1x Jabba the Hutt
1x Padme Amidala
1x Hired Gun
2x Tusken Raider
1X Bala-Tik
2x General Veers
1x First order Stormtrooper

1x Leia Organa
2x Admiral Ackbar
2x General Grievous
1X BB-8

1x Infantry Grenades
1x DH-17 Blaster
1x Outpost
1x Black One
1x IQA-11 Blaster Rifle
2x Scout

1x AT-ST
1x Black Market
1x DL-44 heavy blaster
1x Flame Thrower
2x Jetpack
1x Thermal Detonator
1x Force training
1x Sith Holocron
1x Force Protection
1x Force Choke

overall i'd say i'm fairly happy with my pulls and got good value for my box. I'm fairly certain i got at least 2 of all the commons and any of the rare and uncommon cards i want secondary copies of should be relatively cheap to trade or purchase what i want

I think he means that the random distribution isn't so random. The shuffling, by most reports, is absolutely awful.

Qualify 'most.'

*snip*

Woahhh -- your Rare list is identical to my booster box, card for card. My legendaries were a little different: Jabba, Crime Lord, Thermal Detonator, Han, Millenium Falcon, Kylo's Saber. But this definitely gives some credence to the "random distribution isn't so random" camp. And if the sets are fixed like this, I don't know why they would print booster boxes that come with so many doubles. I'd be curious to see what Uncommons you got, to see if those match up too.

So far, the collectable aspect has been treating me pretty darned well. Between promo cards from preview events and the small amount of product I've been able to purchase / gotten at those previews (a total of 14 boosters and 2 Rey starters) I have spent about 65 dollars and made over 250 selling just a couple of promo and legendary cards (2x Vader, 1x Millennium Falcon, 1x, Jabba, oversized plastic Kylo/Rey, full-art Rey).

I've flipped some of that profit into X-wing stuff I've wanted for a while - a complete set of nice acrylic tokens and a couple of epic ships - and I'll be turning the rest of it into a booster box or two and some other goodies... I just saw a really nice deck box that Curled Paw Creatives is working on for Destiny :)

that'll take quite some time, if i'm bored tomorrow afternoon (which i likely will be due to having the next few weeks off of work) i'll get you the list
