How is collectability treating you?

By TylerTT, in Star Wars: Destiny

I'm two starters and 22 boosters into destiny (so about 100 dollars MSRP) I have been pretty lucky with 6 legendaries (Han, vader, phasma, launch bay, one with the force, thermo detonator)

100 bucks is quite a price. Without trading i feel bad about the playability of my collection. mostly because I got stiffed hard on character draws, only three legendary and two ackbar. I'm 20-40 commons and uncommons from a full set double that away from a play set (two of each).

hopefully when the game launches and the whales are cracking boxes instead of boosters i can trade for a few more characters to give me some options.

right now i feel like the game lacks hard in the team construction side. if supporting characters like BB-8 were instead 2-6 gray characters i would feel much better about the game.

I am actually kinda surprised you only have 6 legendaries for 22 boosters. I assume the starters are set cards?

Actually, I take that back. Thinking about it, I spent perhaps $35ish today and got 2 legendaries so that about matches. I have Luke and Kylo Ren's Lightsaber which I will be trading for Phasma, Its going to be difficult trying to get her second dice for a while.

legendaries are 1 in every 6 packs. to have six normally would take an entire box worth of 36 boosters.

14 boosters, no legendaries. I was one of two players at my launch event that didn't get any.

On the other hand, I did manage to trade my way into a pair of Grievouses. Turned my opponents' "Legendary" luck against them. <_<

From what I've seen the "lucky" people may be getting a lot of 1 of legendary cards. Personally, I got 18 packs and have Elite Jengo and normal padme, leia, qui-gon, rebel trooper, Bak, Nightsister, etc.

I only picked up 2 legendaries, but right now, IDGAF cause I have more playable stuff.

It's fun! I have a collection of cards (NEED MORE!) and a hand full of characters (5 Vivian and 6 Hero) to build decks around. I'm enjoying the limitations and not being overwhelmed by cards and dice. Plus, it's like being a kid again with baseball cards and finding people to trade with!! lol

right now most players are lucky to have 12 boosters.let's wait until the real release to complain about lack of cards.

The collectible nature of the game is the only thing about it so far that I don't like about it. I got 2 Legendaries out of 8 boosters so I've come out okay in that sense I guess.

I went to effectively 4 events, effectively because I stumbled on a LGS that was selling the pre-release maximums (starter, 6 booster) looking for card storage! The first three I pulled one legendary out of 18 packs: Force Choke, the one I stumbled upon I got two more for 3 in 24 (Falcon and Luke)--behind the curve, but what ya gonna do? Otherwise of note I got: Elite Grievous, an Ackbar, a Qui-Gon, an Amidala, THREE Bala-Tik (if I see that smirking face again...), and a flame thrower.

If I don't pull 2 Bala Tik's from my booster box Dec. 2, I'll buy one of your 3 Bala Tik's!

I got 15 boosters, and only pulled 2x characters... with both starters and 15 boosters i have no way to even come close to 30points worth of characters. Since my characters were both heros and both 10 points or more i am sitting at a very awkward number for attempting an actual deck, would have loved to pull some basic characters. (i got admiral ackbar and qui gon jinn)

I thought about attempting to trade or purchase with some who purchased more boosters then i but i fear that after the game is released then i will pull a bunch of the more common stuff then. So atm i am in the lurch until more boosters are available or i decide to bite the bullet and spend $20can on another fin dice...

I got some cool cards i am happy about, but i just cant really field anything close to 30 points worth of characters. Was a little bumbed that the starter was not a fully functioning deck.

Ackbar plays nicely with Finn and Qui gon and Rey could make for a fun deck! Use six sided dice to proxy that second elite dice if you need to. Remember we are not playing in tournaments here, we are previewing the game.

I was able to buy nine boosters at the local pre-release, got three legendaries. (Han, Poe, and Thermal Detonator.)

I got 10 packs, 1 Legendary (Kylo's Lightsaber). I got zero characters, and 5 of my rares were starter rares (BB-8, Rey's Staff x2, TIE/fo, Immobilize). Definitely looking forward to the full release: hoping characters get more plentiful and starter rares not so much.

OUCH! that's harsh!

Heheh, yeah. Hope this luck doesn't hold. I remember buying dozens of packs of Hoth (SW CCG from Decipher) looking for that Wes Janson I never did get.

Bringing back baaad memories... lol. I'm sure all will be fine once we're not limited to a handful of packs. Things will average out (he tells himself soothingly).

My issue is definetly characters. Upgrade and decks ima little short at times but my main issue is there's only a few way to divide my 3 villains and 4 heroes. That's with two starters and 10 boosters. I realize reading this thread that that's even better than average but my main concern and the only singles I've actually ordered on the secondary market are characters so that I can get variety in character play. Especially since it's just my wife and I playing. That generally rules out the padme card that I will be using competetively but won't see play with just my wife.

I've had fairly bad luck so far...9 booster packs, 0 legendaries. Two characters, one Tusken Raider and one Leia (sans card...) so not very good options on the lightside to combine with the other characters yet. I did get 1 sith holocron which will be nice if I get more expensive blue upgrades. Also pulled two starter rares (BB-8 and Rey's staff).

So far: GREAT!

My daughter and I went to the pre-release and cracked 12 packs. Ended up with Han, Luke, Vader, and Kylo Ren's Lightsaber. My daughter was stoked.

A couple of things about this game really help me get over the sticker shock of collectability. For one, the max copies of a given card in this game (of any type) is 2. Industry standard for most games is 4. Meaning, in general, you need half as much Destiny as you do other games.

Another strong point is the smaller number of cards per pack means you are storing fewer "garbage" cards. Every rare gives you a Die. And at this stage of the game, I think you will be building most of your decks based on how many dice you can cram in there. They are practically this games basic resource.

I got 10 boosters at the pre-launch thing I went to. Due to scarcity I could only get one starter, and I went Kylo Ren, and in the boosters I got lots and lots of hero cards. There were enough villain and neutral cards to make a full deck, though. The only legendary was Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber. I got a Leia Organa, Nightsister, Jetpack, Force Training, Holdout Blaster, Scout, a few other things I can't remember. The point is once I get my hands on a Rey deck, I'll have more opportunities to use the stuff I just got.

I just opened my first boosters for this game, and it was 30 packs for me, chi-ching!

For the legendaries I was sitting spot on in the 1-in-6 ratio with my 5 pulls. I got Crime Lord, Poe Dameron, Luke's Lightsaber, Phasma and Commanding Presence. Also I got 11 characters total, with 2x Leia and 2x Hired Gun. The rest were Jango Fett, Rebel Trooper, General Veers, Genereal Grievous and Count Dooku.

I have yet to play a single game of this beauty, but I feel a lot of the other cards I got were also nice. I will be purchasing the starter packs too and in that regard I also had some duds like 2x BB-8, Immobilize, Rey's Staff and Jedi Robes.

All in all it was a frenzied and a lovely opening! :)

Ok, it seems moderators take up ages with approving posts from new users. I wrote my previous comment five days ago and the whole topic has then slid into page 2.

So this is just a shameless 'up' for this topic! ;)

So far so good. I went to a pre-launch even at my FLGS and got one starter and 6 boosters. I got one legendary, Phasma, as well as Qui-Gon, Veers, and a Tusken Raider, along with a Data Pad, and a Comm Link. It think that when the game releases and people starting getting more product, cards will be around for trade / individual sale. This will make it much easier to get the cards you want for a specific deck. This is what happens in most collectible games.

I opened eight booster packs, got one legendary and seven rares. I got Qui-Gon, which is a character I was really looking forward to playing, so happy there. Alas, one of the other seven was 'Rey's Staff', but hey, that's how the cookie crumbles.

Sitting opposite me, my brother, who purchased three booster packs, pulled Kylo Ren's Lightsaber and Jabba The Hutt. Tsk tsk.

I went to a pre-release, and was lucky enough to get an entire box. It was a super lucky day for me, because I got my top 3 most-wanted cards: Vader, Luke, and Han (other legendaries in the box were Phasma, Thermal Detonator, and Commanding Presence). Got doubles of Bala-Tik, Veers, Jetpack, Nightsister, Tuskin, and Scout. Also very happy to pull Han's blaster, a Sith Holocron, and Grievous.
