Verminious's "Into the Shadows" card question

By JFresh, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey all,

I have a question regarding the card in the Verminious plot deck called Into the Shadows.

Here is the card text:

Use this card when you activate a monster with 4 or less Health. Instead of performing actions, remove that monster from the map and place it on the card. Each monster on this card still counts toward the group limit of its monster group.

When a hero declares a rest action, you must place each monster on this card in an empty space adjacent to that hero. Then, each of those monsters may perform an attack that targets that hero.

So let's say you're playing with 4 heroes. One hero goes into a corner, and has the other 3 heroes occupy the spaces adjacent to them. Now, that hero in the corner Rests. So what happens next? There is no empty adjacent space next to this hero so no monsters can be placed as they "must" be placed in an empty space next to that hero. Does it not kick off then? Even if we decided that the monsters were simply placed as close to that hero as they could, we still have the conflict of the card that declares the monsters attack "that hero". In this scenario, they cannot because the other heroes block the way. I'd love to get an official ruling on this if possible. Thanks for your time and assistance.

I think normal rules when placing something in a space or adjacent to a figure would apply. Since all the adjacent spaces are occupied, the monsters would have to be placed in the closest empty spaces instead. Then, because line of sight would be blocked, the monsters would be unable to target the resting hero and the free attack would be lost.
