Unofficial Bounty Hunters...

By ExpandingUniverse, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Direct copy & paste for the blurb on the BH splat: As a pragmatic, shrewd, and dangerous Bounty Hunter, you have a unofficial, galaxy-wide license to hunt and even, if you like, kill.

I've bold-ed (is that even a word), Italic-ed (ditto) and underlined what I just spotted... I thought BHs were officially licensed by The Empire.... after all don't they carry an Imperial Peace-Keeping Certificates? I'm confused now.. if they're unofficial.... how do BHs get an official licence??? Doesn't page 57 state info about owing an up-to-date IPKC?

They didn't want to give people a blanket license to kill. And just doing the job of bounty hunting or even joining a bh guild doesn't get you the ipk license. Only getting the ipk actually gives you an official license. The want to make sure players don't put the cart before the horse so to speak in terms of their expectations.

Its Edge of the Empire, not Law Abiding Citizens of the Empire. If you are worried about what the Impys think, you are doing it wrong

:)

Greatly depends on the table you are playing at and the worlds you are visiting.

The Empire doesn't control the entire galaxy. So, while the license might be valid inside the Empire, it is an unofficial license outside of the Empire's territory. Hence the statement "unofficial, galaxy-wide license"

The way I run it, there are Bounty Hunter licenses, which are valid virtually everywhere outside of the Empire. There is a galaxy-wide Bounty Hunter's Guild, and most places seem to respect that. And the BHG has guildhalls on many heavily populated planets, and at least automated kiosks virtually everywhere else.

Then there are Imperial licenses, which are valid only inside the Empire. This is the IPKC.

And there are a number of places that might be willing to accept either.

Hmmmm ok... thanks guys. My son is playing the BH/Assassin in our group and we both wanted clarification.... myself and the other player are his....eerrr.... 'associates' ;) *sets blaster to stun as I may take Force Sensitive Emergent*

Keep in mind that the "license to kill" applies to the target of a bounty, specifically, and only if the listing is "dead or alive". Gunning down a busload of innocent bystanders is going to land you in just as much trouble as a regular citizen who shoots up a crowded area.

..

which is why we've started setting blasters to stun.... ;) it's less messy and doesn't require as much explaining to 'The Boys in White'
