Jade is one of the top players in our area, and she and her dad, Jim, are really great people and super fun to play with. That list of her's has been smashing face at our store for like 4-6 months!

That's why I love facing all kwing lists. They are deadly against lists with few hit points (usually aces) but can't do enough damage against beefier lists which is what I tend to run.

Was bummed I didn't get to face any kwing lists at regionals.

So great to watch a meta net list bore just get embarrassed on stream and taped for everyone to watch whenever they wish to know what happens when a net list runs into a list designed specifically to counter it.

What I like abut her list is that it's designed by really thinking outside the box, like the kind of list that SableGryphon & Kinetic Operator dream up.

You think you know the meta, the state of the game, but then you run into one of these squads. You'll probably dismiss it at first, until it bears its fangs on you, and you think "Oh, I see now. What have I gotten myself into". You realize that there's a hell of a lot more to X-wing than you thought just a few minutes ago

There's no reason anyone should be embarrassed by their losses, and it's bad from to wish it on another player. Unless its Ribban, lol.

No no no. Not the player. I would never wish the player to be embarrassed. And placing as well as he did, I'm certain he was far from it. Understand that I look at streams or videos of top level play and all I see is lists. The players themselves had absolutely nothing to do with my comments. Ben Keller seems like a fantastic fellow, and I have no reason to doubt he is. I take joy in seeing Palpatine lists "embarrassed" (poor choice of words there for me), because they are a high level list that is seen at many top tables, and, by many, referred to as things as ridiculous as "unbeatable" and "broken". I take joy in this result because it proves that they are beatable, and there are things that can take them out handily, and they can make top tables themselves. It gives me hope that perhaps there is more out there that can take down these meta giants, and perhaps these things will show up often enough that in the future, players will think twice about bringing the tried and true Palp Ace variants, which I personally am bored of and would like to see less of.

Think of it as a David vs Goliath aspect that I enjoy, without considering the human element. No good human being looks at a person and jumps for joy as they fall down. Surely even at the highest level of any competition a victor feels some amount of sorrow for his fallen opponent. I apologize either way though, as it is pretty much impossible to dissect the two, a player and his list, and I failed to take that into consideration with my comment. For that I am truly sorry.

And if it makes you feel any better, I have been embarrassed PLENTY in this game. I have lost games in such epic fashion that I wasn't sure was even possible until I was on the floor, curled up into a ball, crying, trying to understand what had just happened.

There is little difference between winning and being top 16-ish. Randomness happens, you can judge a list only by how often it tends to float up. And Palpaces/defenders/whatever tends to do so a lot. They are the most meta-warping squad remaining (probably, the meta is still new). Nowhere near as bad as U-Boats as all you need is Sabine to make their day sad, but they still push everything that can't get through the 3 dice of armour out.

There can be quite a big difference. You can make Top-16 on MOV, lose, and finish 4-3. Even if you scrape into Top-16 with MOV you've bagged another 4 wins by the time you take the title to finish 8-2.

So it's 80% win rate vs 57% win rate.

But yes, I get your point about variance deciding the results to an extent, but that's true of every game. It's like saying there's not much difference between Top-16 and finishing last.
