Assassin's Creed (ship build idea)

By SlaveofChrist, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Folks! Hope all is well :).

Well, I've been thinking about a build idea that I just put the finishing touches on and I'm calling it Assassin's Creed. As both IG-88 & Guri are Assassins  by trade, I thought that this would be an apt name.

Assassin's Creed

IG-88A (36)

Fearlessness (1)

Conner Net (4)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Sensor Jammer (4)

Black Market Slicer Tools (1)

Tactical Jammer (1)

Guri (30)

Bodyguard (2)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Sensor Jammer (4)

Cloaking Device (2)

Stealth Device (3)

Virago (1)

Total = 100

The way that I would use this is that I would always fly Guri behind IG-88, (even "bumping" into him) thereby putting him in between line of site to the enemies to her - that way I can take advantage of Tactical Jammer increasing her Agility value to 5 in conjunction with Sensor Jammer. With Bodyguard, it would give IG-88 an Agility value of 4 plus Sensor Jammer.

He would then fly around blasting anyone at 4 attack dice, and close prey at 4 dice + 1 hit (Fearlessness), with having Guri shoot at them from cover of IG-88. I threw in Black Market Slicer Tools to add some flexibility (one of favourite upgrades). The Cloaking Device & Conner Net are both for "What If...?" unknown's that may crop up. I also like IG-88A's "regenerating" shield ability.

Anyways, I don't know how viable this would be with only two ships fielded in a battle, that's were you come in my friends, as I don't have any tournament experience. Thanks and God bless :D.

To be honest I see quite a few problems with this list.
I think IG-88B would be the better choice so you can make sure that you put out enough damage with only 2 ships. Fearlessness would fit IG-88B better though. Push the limit and Advanced Sensors might be the better choice for action economy on the Aggressor. Also Autothrusters will work better on both ships than Sensor Jammer and/or Stealth Device (and are cheaper too).

A strength of Guri is her ability to adjust her positioning with Boost and Barrel Roll which you'll take away if you let her bump and hide behind the Aggressor. Also the Cloaking Device doesn't make sense with that way to fly since it could grant you an davantage in maneuverability. Would be better to use her maneuverability, Autothrusters and tokens to keep her out of firing arcs. Also Guri will fly before the Aggressor so she shouldn't fly behind him.

By keeping both ships close together you'll be a sitting duck and solely rely on your green dice. You'll have to use your focus tokens for defense and Guri might not even have one when bumping. It's no good to rely on lucky dice rolls and not leave anything for attacking yourself. If Guri flies behind the Aggressor all the time you won't be able to make good use of the Conner Net. Also sinking 7 points (Conner Net, Slicer Tools, Cloaking Device) into stuff you're just taking for "what if" situations is not a good idea.

Maybe have a look for some videos of matches where people were flying an Aggressor or Starviper and see how they fly them. I think your strategy for those kinds of ships won't work very well. Or have a look on list juggler if you can find similar lists and get some more ideas of how to combine those ships. Actually for your first tournament I'd recommend bringing a list that it is a bit forgiving if you make maneuvering mistakes. There probably will be people having much more experience in general and having squads they have played often competitively. Maybe bring some turrets like TLT Y-Wings if you want to field Scum ships. Still most important is that you'll bring something you'll have fun playing! ;) Best of luck!

Hmm...some good and valid points. (Benefits of asking experienced players ). While I won't be playing in tournaments, I will continue playing against my son and I have also a mind to play some other adults in local game shops on "X-wing" nights. Still like to get feedback before taking the plunge, especially on "risky" builds.

All good points, thanks for "fleshing-it-out" for me, great detail!

God bless :).
