New Objectives!

Except... The corona isn't set until after you've deployed/

Oh...

Except... The corona isn't set until after you've deployed/

But its still like Superior where the first person sets up all their stuff first. And then the second, and then the Corona. So I suppose, as a first player, how do you deploy to not get screwed by the Corona...

you can't really. But hey, that was a valid tactic in WW2, it's still a valid tactic now. And the penalty sucks, but isn't too harsh.

Also, definitely parking flotillas in corona rays now....Bright Hope is gonna be SO bright.

Since the campaign is designed to be one campaign kit for a group, supplying both teams with their respective squad cards and such, it gave me a thought. Will the campaign box contain 2 copies of each objective card (one for each team) or will it be like the core set and only be one set of these objectives? Thoughts?

One Set.

The box is still going to be "owned" by someone.

Things will be all shared during a campaign playthrough - because campaigns are all about caring and sharing...

..

But to translate this to Tournament Play for Tournament Legality - That will be "One Copy, One Set, One Player."

Yeah that is kind of what I was thinking. Bummer though as it would be nice to not have to buy two kits for two players when the only thing that would have to be duplicated to make one kit work is the objectives.

Remember, that's just for Tournament Play.

In which everything is "buy your own".

Well not just for tournament play. I supply enough for two people to play so I can host games and the sharing objectives method as per the instructions in the core set isn't fun. I know I could proxy them, printing out scans or whatever, but they will never be close enough that you wouldn't be able to recognize the copy from the back, meaning as you are picking objectives you will have to hide them so as not to tip off the opponent as to which cards they could be. Not a big deal, just an irritation, similar to the irritation of FFG never supplying enough dice. Being nitpicky, but I'm sure I can buy extra cards second hand or buy two sets and sell the extra pilot cards.

nevermind the fact that, because of its contents - its priced well enough to be worth it...

Its a third of the price of the Core Set, for one.

Its the second-cheapest of the Price Bands we hve for Armada...

For that, you're getting all of the Squadron Discs, all of the Objectives, all of the new obstacle tokens to use with the new objectives - that part can't be missed - and so on...

For $30US.

It's definitely reasonably priced. I hope they continue to do more of these at regular intervals going forward.

But this wise guru has a dark past. He is barred from his country and lives in exile in the cold, wastelands of the North, only connected to society via his WiFi. What is he hiding? How does he know so much about Armada? And what is his last name? Stay tuned to find out what happens next."

This makes me so happy hahahahahaha

OK I'm not panicking yet....

But lets say you are first player with a "balanced" list (say 1 big ship, 1 small ship, some flots and 80 points of squadrons....)

Across from you is JJs list or the Imperial equivalent.

Your options are precision strike, fighter ambush, and superior positions....

What do you do?

Bid to get the choice of 1st or 2nd next time...

Fighter Ambush. Alpha strike their squads and lock them down since they won't be commanded. Use some anti squad shots from your ships to take out a couple. Its doable.

you know, if placed correctly, you could put your fighters just behind obstacles so 1st player fighters can't engage on round one.

Probably the option I'd go with. But you do deploy them after everything else is deployed. And you can still do a squad command to your squads. The best part about it I think is you could put them exactly opposite where the first player deploys his screen, and then go bombing on whatever ship is uncovered.

Its going to be like Superior or anything else. First player will likely have to deploy their stuff relatively close together.

I'm really, really liking this.

yup. To be honest, I found some of the "vanilla" objectives to be a bit boring. Advanced Gunnery and opening salvo just to name those, did not bring much to the game and did not really make good use of the star wars setting.

Sounds like you check for "Proof of Purchase" squares before every tournament.

No, just an accepted acknowledgement that you can't exactly have 2 people turn up to a Tournament and have them expect to be able to share a Core Set between them, like they do at their local game days... Its perfectly acceptable, and downright encouraged there...

But Tournaments have Rules and Regulations.

...

I mean, I'll admit. I'm disappointed at how many people still don't understand Most Wanted, even though they're at Regionals, where they're expect to have at least a passing familiarity with the rules and FAQs...

... for anything less than that, sure.

But its part of the Regulations....

Now you make me wonder if I understand most wanted.....

If a Squadron is firing at an objective ship, do you add a die?

I think Fighter Ambush might end up on the bottom of the pile next to Fleet Ambush. It puts you at a deployment disadvantage as Second Player right off the bat. Then, if you want to take advantage of the special deployment, you risk being out of command range. Sure, you could bring Rogues, but then you risk taking an alpha strike from commanded squadrons. The objective points themselves equally favor first and second player, so if we both have a lot of squadrons, I am probably going to take this objective. At a minimum I will enjoy a deployment advantage. Best case scenario, I'm alpha striking your unsupported squadrons and then going to town on your ships to rack up the victory tokens.

Might be good for a Bwing swarm.

Or Flight Commanders on large speed 3 ISDs to get some turn one Bomber attacks.

blockade run looks like a lot of fun, but I fear it might result in imperial players sitting their ISDs at speed 0 in their deployment zone, like I've already seen too much of already.

Added to KDY

Short Range Intel looks like fun with Home One or Quad Turbolasers

Ooooh, Yes Please... I quiver with antici-.....

Hmm....Home One with Quad Turbo 90s? Run three of them and you're racking up 60 points a turn....as well as plink damage.

I play long-range Imperial, and let me say, solar corona has me both very excited and very scared.

Not necessarily... With those big arcs it could put you at a disadvantage. It promotes a deployment where you start in the corner facing away from the Corona, and force your opponent to come at you, putting their arcs in the corona

Nice.

If only there were some sort of upgrade that perhaps I could give to... say... my Interdictor to make it detrimental for those Rebels to deploy near the Corona so I could then get my fleet up-sun of them.

If only....

No wait!!!

Of course, second player deploys them after yours are committed, so they may be able to avoid your fighters.

And they could run a shuttle to command at least some of those squadrons...
