Quick question here for those experienced players & GMs on this forum:

My son's PC has purchased two ranks in Parry under the Shii-Cho Knight specialization, & I'm a little confused as to how this talent's mechanic operates in terms of stacking.

Upon purchasing the second rank in Parry, does the PC suffer 6 strain & reduce damage by 3? Or does the PC suffer 3 strain & 3 damage?

Although I've consulted the "Core Rulebook" - specifically pg 136 - I'm still a bit confused. Your help is appreciated in clearing this up for us.

The talent's description says that the rank increases the effect. It does not increase the Strain cost to use the effect.

Parry is:

1. Take 3 Strain
2. Reduce incoming damage by 2 + Ranks in Parry

So, the base Parry is an equal tradeoff - 3 Strain to reduce damage by 3 (2 + 1 rank). A second rank, like your son has, is 3 strain to reduce by 4 (2 + 2) and so on.
