Snap shot and Zuckuss Pilot?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

So I get to add 1 die to the roll because at the step before modify it states:

2. “Roll Attack Dice” step i. Identify number of attack dice (from Ship card or secondary weapon) ii. Resolve abilities that increase or decrease the number of attack dice (including Range Combat Bonus)

Does the defender still get the Defense Dice bonus from Zuckuss ability?

I say no because Step 3: in under dice modification and Snap shot says no modifcation of dice allowed.

3. “Modify Attack Dice” step • These abilities include adding, changing, and rerolling dice results. Dice can be modified multiple times, but each die can be rerolled only once. i. Defender resolves abilities that modify attack dice ii. Attacker resolves abilities that modify attack dice

But a heated dispute broke out on vassal about this?

Who is correct?

Adding dice to roll is not a modification; adding dice results is (C3PO, for example).

Adding DICE is not the same as adding dice RESULTS.

If you increase the number of dice rolled before rolling, it's not a modification, and you can do it with Snap Shot. If you add a specific result AFTER rolling, it is, and you can't.

You can use Zuckuss pilot's ability on Snap Shot, but not, say, Finn crew.

Understood, but does the defender get his bonus dice, when I use zuckuss ability. According to the time chart it only mentions attack dice, not defender dice. This is where the questions come in?

Yes.

Snap Shot doesn't stop the defender modifying dice anyway.

I'm not following your argument that would allow Zuckuss to add an attack die to your roll but not allow the defender to add a die to his roll.

Step 4 is where the defender identifies the number of green dice to roll. Specifically 4.ii says "Resolve abilities that increase or decrease the number of defense dice (including Range Combat Bonus)" This is before the modify defense dice step and is not affected by Snapshot in any way.

The timing chart for both attacking and defending discusses determining number of dice to roll.

“Roll Attack Dice” step

i. Identify number of attack dice (from

Ship card or secondary weapon)

ii. Resolve abilities that increase or

decrease the number of attack dice

(including Range Combat Bonus)

This step is before the modify dice step and is mirrored in the roll defense dice section. For subsection ii in both cases Zuckuss ability applies and increases the number of dice.

Snap Shot says you cannot modify ATTACK dice.

So, if you had an A-Wing with Juke you can Juke their roll. You can Zuckuss (crew) their roll. You can Zuckuss (pilot) their roll. And, there is even a corner case where a range 1 shot is obstructed. They still add that die. Also, if they already have a focus/evade they can spend it.

Got it! So it's 3v3 then?

Assuming the defender has two defence dice normally, yes.

Its 3 v Enemy AGI +1

Thanks guys

As stated already, there is a HUGE difference between rolling additional dice and adding dice.

If you look at all the ways to increase/decrease the number of dice being rolled, you will notice all of them say "roll one additional" or "roll one less" not "add one die to your roll"

Adding is a modify, and is reserved specifically for things such as Evade tokens that add a result to the roll, which is literally taking an unrolled die, putting it to a specific face, and placing it down.

Rolling additional dice is not a modify. Otherwise OmegaLeader would deny range benefits, as they also "roll one additional die"

Also, Snapshot doesnt prevent the defender from modifying HIS dice or YOUR dice either. Snapshot says "You cannot modify your attack dice" meaning only the ship using snapshot cant modify dice, any outside source or the defender may still modify it. Opposing player may still Jam your Hits, Elusiveness anything, etc etc and M9G8 may allow you to reroll 1 die as long as he isnt on the ship using snapshots (or Palp for that matter).
