I had another request for the rules I'm working on with J-bot. I'll go ahead and post what I responded to in the PM.

Yes, I agree that it can be confusing about the rules (finding them). We are always tweaking them, too. Still, I can offer up what we have at the moment. Beware that it can change. Also, we would LOVE to have any feedback for anything you try.

I am not able to pull up any content using that link; get a 404. We're going to run a Mario Wing race for our next store challenge, and would like to use the rules in as "final" a state as they exist right now, thanks!

If you are having difficulty with the drive location I posted, it has been removed. I'll go back and remove the link to avoid the frustration/confusion.

I'll make an inquiry and see if a new link can be posted here.

Sorry

@Biff, You get that link sorted? I was wondering why you removed it before. :)

when we ran our event we didn't use any custom cards for pickups - we used a shuffled deck of EPT and weapon upgrade cards that people drew from instead and it seemed to work quite well

I have already printed / laminated the Mario cards found earlier in the topic; I was just looking for the rules on running the race. Our group is very excited to do something different with X-Wing and this fits the need!

Ah - I completely forgot. My bad. Sorry. I'll resurrect my work and post it to a new folder tonight for folks to do with as they like. Making a note now...

ah I see, that I can't really help with as I built about 40 different ships for my event - all to 40pts or there about as I was using attack wing and ships are more expensive in general - and then had the players random-draw the ship they used for the event.

I will add a copy of the rules I last used when playing XKart to the folder I create tonight. I will post the path in this thread. That should get you started if no one else beats me to it.

Thanks @Biff ... much appreciated. If there is an opportunity to post it earlier (or send it to me in advance) that would be great, as we were planning an initial test run tonight. We can wing it (ha, see what I did there?) with an older copy of the rules that I found if needed.

We talked about that for balance with the Open races for our event. We will have Stock of one ship, then 24 pts of whatever, and then something like 40 for wide open whatever. We found that you can make some super cheaty stuff and that was too annoying. Dash can ignore walls and such. So, we are thinking about coming up with a crap ton of pre-made ships and letting people pick. That way we can make things that are not broken. Also, we can come up with cool names for each one.

pre-built/random draw is definitely a fun way of playing - we've done it for two different events now and its been a laugh both times.

I'm prepping for an X-Kart event at my local store this Summer, so once I start putting builds together I'll start posting them here for people to see/use/comment-on/spot-errors-in

I'm not sure if we will make people pick random, but having a list of 20-30 to pick from (when the most we will have is 12) could be good. The only problem might just be with ships we have available. All of the bigger ships has me only owning one of each. Phil and Biff might have more, but we might have to limit how many of each ship type unless they bring their own. Still, could be fun to come up with interesting builds based on the different ships.

@drathbun This is the best I can do at the moment. I don't have my thumbdrive "library" with me, so I went back into my email records and pulled this guy out - from Jan. I'm sure it has been edited a bit since then, but this should be good enough to get started with.

we had a similar issue for our event as we we're only playing with my collection - the way we got round it was scanning each build onto a sheet of thin card (so the cards didn't get lost/damaged), with one build per model that I was using, and then had the ship/pilot cards in a deck. We let the player shuffle and then cut the ship-deck, with them able to pick between the card on either side of the cut as the ship they were playing.

we also let players have the option of drawing a new ship if they we're shot down, just in case they got a ship they weren't getting on with.

I think we can probably pull out a good list of ships to offer between the crew of Shuttle T. That's a good idea, though. I think we might have to mark all our bases so that we can tell our own ships at the end of it!

we've had that problem with HotAC (telling people's ships apart) out solution was to have each person with a different number of sticks between the ship and the base

We haven't had that as everyone wants a different mini. Many have painted theirs or use the T-70 (both versions). I put my TL token on the front, and it's all painted differently.

I've seen people paint target lock tokens (the base cardboard tokens) and use them to mark ships. That works really well, and you just put the painted target lock token where the "tombstone" numbered marker would go.

both great ideas!

Jim, I should have made myself clearer, it's not the player ships that get mixed up, its the hoards of AI ships we have to deal with as we are flying as a squadron of 10!

I also print out a color picture of something. Luke's face, a Rebel helmet, Vader's face, Lambda Shuttle, etc. That way you know who is who. I just use a glue stick to put them in the middle of the TL token.

Yowzers! 10 is a lot. I have pulled out all the 1-6 tokens and use them, but then start grabbing random numbers beyond that.

I think I just found the next thing for us to try.

its definitely worth trying - we've used it for a pick-up-and-play demo day at our local store to great success
