A slightly different Ghost

By Karhedron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have been trying to work out a slightly different Ghost build lately. Conventional wisdom is that if you want a tanky Ghost then Kanan/Biggs is the way to go. I have run this build and it certainly works but I want to try something different. Most people take FCS because it is strong on a ship with a double-tap but I think that Reinforced Deflectors have mileage too.

RDs don't work well with Kanan because his ability tends to reduce incoming shots below the trigger threshold so I will go with a cheap and cheerful Lothal Rebel. The one problem with FCS is that your TL only goes on the defender of your previous shot and there are often reason why you may want to switch targets. Lastly, it only benefits one of your TLT shots, not both.

One possible solution is M9-G8. This little droid is great in that you can slap a TL on the Ghost and leave it there. You now get to reroll one dice every shot, regardless of target. In order to get some more flexibility out of the little guy, an ARC with Weapons Engineer seems like a good carrier so I have opted for Thane as his free actions provide extra flexibility and also make him something of a mini-Biggs.

50 Lothal Rebel (35), Reinforced Deflectors (3), TLT (6), Hera (1), Chewbacca (4), Tactical Jammer (1), Ghost (0)

18 Zeb (18), Phantom (0)

32 Thane (26), M9-G8 (3), Weapons Engineer (3), Alliance Overhaul (0)

100 Total

The list is pretty self-explanatory. You keep the Ghost and Phantom docked as long as possible to maximise the power of the double tap. RDs keep the Ghost alive longer as does Chewie (who also helps you beat a nasty crit). Thane rolls along buffing the Ghost and slapping TLs on anything that looks vaguely threatening.

Could this work or is it just flat-out inferior to Kanan/Biggs?
