What do you expect from Rogue One?

By IG88E, in X-Wing

I expect another poorly directed war movie dumped on another Rebel focused narrative. I want nothing from it as I think the U-Wing and TIE Stryker are both hideous, and that death troopers are a pitiful knock off of Cronal's Black Hole operatives and Crix's Storm Commandos.

I imagine it to be critically acclaimed, yet be mediocre or worae, and sell based off flashy bits and distasteful plot selling off the Star Wars name. I also think Disney milking everything and fighting to dumb the movie to be family friendly will bite it in the ass more than TFA did.

I have more things to say, but there are enough new canon fanboys who disagree if I even mention it.

Product cinema that gives me a shaky-cam headache.

To be honest, I'm excited to see a Star Wars movie that doesn't revolve around our existing heroes.

The universe is a big place but it's starting to feel very small and incestuous.

I would prefer to see more stories from the 'verse as opposed to Han and Fett stories in the future too. Those characters are great as they are and more interesting off screen at this point.

100%. One of my largest peeves about the prequels what an unabashed need to revisit all of the old characters, and have them all meet on Tatooine again. It would be one of my complaints about Rebels as well. . .despite the fact that it's nice to see Thrawn on screen.

You must be real fun at parties.

No kidding. Maybe Blod should switch to Star Trek.

With Disney picking up the reins, I have always always envisioned that Star Wars will be like James Bond now. . .there will be some great films, and there will be some bad films, but at least there will not be 15+ years between films.

I expect a better movie than TFA.

I hope to see some Bothans Die! I keep hearing about it, but have never seen it on film.

On that note, they have to lose right? Because hello, the deathstar is not destroyed until a New Hope.

So maybe all of them get killed and the plans get away :) Would make for an interesting movie for sure!

I thought Bothans where the ones that stole the 2nd Death Star plans?

Correct.

Manny Bothans isn't in this film.

As noted, Manny Bothans died to get the information about Death Star 2.

This film is about the stealing of the plans for Death Star 1. So actually, we can be pretty sure they succeed, given that we know the plans get to Leia and from there to the title crawl of A New Hope.

What we don't know if how that all happens, who was involved, and who survived...

Rogue One, Part Deux. Must be in the pipes. . .

Dead or not, it would be nice to see a party of heroes that was not 90%+ human. Ya know, this is science fiction.

On that note, they have to lose right?

The story for Rogue One was inspired by the first Star Wars opening crawler: "Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans..."

This movie will be predictable. That being said...

A member of the original crew saw that and wanted a story based on it. He came up with the story, told a few friends, and held onto it for three decades. When Kathleen Kennedy announced Star Wars spin-offs, one of those friends convinced that man (still a Lucasfilm employee) to pitch the idea to Kennedy.

In a few weeks I will go to a theatre and watch what is truly the original Star Wars fan fiction. I know it will satisfy me as a Star Wars fan because the people who created it are fans like me. Yes, there will be ugly ships and poorly written lines and poorly delivered lines and scenes that would make more sense a hundred other ways. If flaws like those turned me off to a film then I wouldn't be a Star Wars fan in the first place.

Until the rebels blew up the first galactic peace platform it was a human initiative aliens were properly pacified and knew their place.

I expect it to be better than ep7 (my least favorite sw film) at a minimum. Has the potential to even become my new favorite star wars film.

Even before ep7 came out I was much more excited for rogue one. I didn't like the idea of doing sequels after ep6 ends everything so perfectly. I thought spinoffs were much more interesting, if done like rogue one at least. Young han solo type films don't do much for me.

Expecting or hoping?

I'm hoping for a movie that builds on the mythology, much like Rebels, Clone Wars, and yes, the Prequels. A story that will elevate the heroism of the events of a New Hope, Empire and Jedi. A series of events that will highlight how the acts of Rogue One cell brought freedom to the galaxy, rather than a movie that wipes out the 60 years that precedes it.

I expect Darth Vader to kill off all the rebel scum that stole the plans to the Death Star, hop on the Devastator, capture an Alderaanian princess that received the transmission of those plans, right before his kid breaks his death star. Pretty sure that is the story right there, though I may have cheated on those last few details, inside info. Sorry for the spoilers.

And yes, I expect it to be much better than EP7, not really a high expectation though.

That will be a different stand alone movie: The Bothan connection.

If done half as well as Rogue One it may still be a decent movie.
