Trying to build a Palp-RAC for Regionals

By RagnarokSquadron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Looking and crafting a list around Chiraneau carrying Palp, but keep running out of points before I successfully finish out the rest of the list. Can't decide between one Defender, or two smaller ships in the list. Help a guy out?

Depends a lot on what defender you want to run. Can you show us some of your prospective builds?

Thinking of RAC + PTL + Engine Upgrade + Palpatine, which is 61 points. That leaves 39 for a Defender like Vessery, or gets me very close to something like loaded up Omega Leader and Wampa.

Vessery really, really needs a target lock buddy - which Chiraneau isn't - with Predator he doesn't need to target lock and with engine upgrade he has better things to do with his action.

If you want a defender wingman, countess Ryad is probably a better bet. TIE/x7, Push The Limit Countess Ryad is a respectable medium ace, and leaves enough points free for a Rebel Captive on Chiraneau, which is very useful for messing with ace attackers.

Personally, I'd take Omega Leader & Wampa. When you're short on points for a pair of 'proper' aces, the Imperial 'pocket aces' are always a good buy - and Palpatine + Wampa is such a scary-ass combination it's hard to pass up.

RAC and PTL isn't a great combo. I'd strongly recommend Lone Wolf or VI, which frees up more points for Aceholes.

I concur with this one. I could see Predator, as well, but am strongly in the VI category. VI and EU turns your Deci into an arc dodger, which is fantastic.

RAC VI Palp Engine plus Lone WOlf x7 Stealth Rexler is nice. It's difficult to run though because you don't wanna get Rex focus fired too much, but you don't wanna get Palp killed too quickly.

If you can remove the biggest threats to Rex with RAC before he dies, this Rex is among the most survivable endgame ships there are and has decent PS to boot.

And he's more expensive than almost any other Defender which means he wins when it comes down to hot x7 on x7 action as it often does.

It murders your MoV though.

But after much experimentation I ended up running this with Hotshot Copilot, Vader, Gunner rather than Palp and Stealth. It works much better for the 'RAC kills everything that threatens Rex then dies horribly' playstyle.

Palp is amazing for making your Defenders more survivable, or adding some possible damage output to your list.

A Monster RAC (yours) can both turn out his own high damage, sans any additional support, and make your Defenders more survivable by OBLITERATING THE ENEMY.

I love Decimators, I just wish they didn't bleed MoV, even during the matches you're performing well with.

For what it's worth, I've also found Kenkirk + Palp + Isard + EU + LoneWolf to be a great decimator build to run with an acehole. It is an incredibly tanky arc-dodgy survivable bit of shooty goodness, and leaves exactly 40 points for an ace. For extra yucks, add a Thermal Detonator. They always forget about that when they start chasing the decimator around the table.
