So crazy it just might work!

By Punning Pundit, in X-Wing

So, I tried this build:

Etahn A'baht (32)
Juke (2)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
R3 Astromech (2)

Total: 39

As some of you know, I've been a champion of it for a long while. I mean, Stale bread, old eggs and nearly-sour milk is called "French Toast", and it's delicious. I thought maybe I could take a collection of bad parts and make a surprisingly good build!

The idea is that you roll an eyeball, take an evade token, then cancel the other 2 dice and turn them into hits. Then use the evade token + juke to force an eyeball. All the parts work the way they should. The actual mechanics are sound. But.

It doesn't work.

It almost works.

But it doesn't.

The problem is that at PS5, Etahn needs to be taking his evade action every round (when he's up against higher PS opponents), and that can negate the entire point of the build- action free high consistency. At PS 8 or 9, this would be really good, but you'd lose Juke if you put VI on Etahn, and this is not as good as the standard Corran build.

I think the fact that this build isn't great points to the weakness of the E-Wing as a whole. R2D2- Regen- is the only thing that makes Corran viable. The ship itself just falls apart under sustained attack.

So interesting threads: What ideas have you had that looked great on paper, but fall apart on the table? Let's share our best bad ideas here!

4 generic E-wings...

There's just one minor problem.

Any list I make using rebel HWKs, they almost work, but in the end most tend to do better without the HWK than with

You could always add Roark to Etahn, then he shoots at PS12. Solves your problem a bit.

I've had many builds that almost but not quite worked. Many of them I've since forgotten. It's part of being on the cutting edge of the meta. Not everything will work the way you hope. Keep trying and occasionally you will create something potent.

Why accuracy correcter on etahn, you can not modify after correcter. You are basically wasting his ability. Juke, AC, and R3 might be ok for Corran, but you don't really need R3 to Juke, they have natural evades. Juke FCS R2D2 looks like it would provide the same results but have Regen and higher damage output.

I believe you that it doesn't work, but on paper it should. You take evade, get attacked, spend the evade token on defense if needed, then you can still get an evade token to activate Juke during Etahn's attack.

Because you use R3 BEFORE Accuracy Corrector. For example, you roll BLANK EYE HIT. You cancel the Eye to get an Evade with R3. Then you cancel the BLANK and HIT with AC to get HIT HIT. Then you get to Juke because you have an Evade when the role Defense Dice.

None of that has anything to do with his pilot ability, which is indeed being wasted (at least for him) in this build.

As for why, it's because Etahn's got an EPT. That's the only reason OP chose him.

Let me be clear: the combo itself absolutely works! Beautifully! I pulled it off on every die roll. But Etahn still gets wrecked, because E-Wings are surprisingly fragile.

The way around that fragility is to take either a focus or Evade token and use them on defense. But that means I'm not pulling red maneuvers, and no one is dishing out stress.

My buddy was running this Maarek build, and we traded evenly:

Maarek Stele (TIE Defender) (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

TIE/x7 (-2)

Total: 34

But to get that trade, I had to spend an extra 5 points.

Yeah, all this. It's an action-free way to get an evade token, 2 guaranteed hit dice, and still cancel at least one evade (or require a focus be spent), and do it without spending an action. This should be a great combination on a Jouster.

You're right that if I add Roark into the mix, I can get that PS12 going on. And with a TLT, it might even work...
