PTL & pattern analyzer& green maneuvers

By BlodVargarna, in X-Wing Rules Questions

As I understand it the interaction with pattern analyzer (PA) and a green move and PTL goes like this:

1) reveal green maneuver

2) delay check pilot stress step

3) action

4) PTL action

5) get stressed

6) check pilot stress step: because green maneuver, shed stress

7) profit

Is this correct?

Sounds about right to me.

You should probably have "1.5) Perform maneuver" in there but the rest of it looks legit.

Thanks guys! That's a pretty sweet combo there.

Another way to do the Advanced Sensors trick...

Yup, this lets any ship with a tech do the adv sensors/bb8 shenanigans now.

One thing that's interesting about PA, is it says may, that means the next turn if you perform a green you can not use PA so you do the check pilot stress like normal and get rid of the stress before the perform action step.

When I first read the card I missed 'May' and thought it would only be effective every other turn.

I'm confused. Why would "may" mean one cannot use PA?

Does that mean if you started the turn with a stress? If so I think you are right that one could decide not to use PA to shed the stress then perform actions as normal.

I think you've misunderstood. You have the option of not using it.

SO if you're stressed before you move, you can opt not to activate it, clear the stress at the normal time, and still take your action as normal.

You can use PA every turn on every maneuver. You "may" opt out of it in case you were stressed already and doing a green maneuver so you still get your action.

The only things in this game that are every other turn are things that double stress you, and even then you can find ways to get'm every turn.

I think VanorDM understands it just fine. He's saying that on first reading he thought pattern analyser was a mandatory effect, then he noticed the word "may" and realised it was optional, thus enabling the shenanigans.

Exactly.

I was thinking about it at the gym so I naturally didn't have access to the text, and forgot it says may so I started to think of it as a weaker version of AS, because you could only use it every other turn.

But then when I had a chance to view the text I saw may which means you chose to not use it, allowing you to remove stress prior to that activations perform an action phase.

I mentioned that because other people may miss the may clause and that would lead them down the wrong direction.
