Kitbashing and Scratching Building W/ Other Games

By BrobaFett, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

So I had a question regarding people who have done what the title insinuates- taking components from other games and models to create or modify Armada ships.

Specifically I have questions regarding Dust.

I have seen people in this sub mention using parts from their old Dust models and chopping them up for use in Armada scratch builds and mods. With FFG clearancing their Dust product right now I was thinking I might pick up a couple of them to use purely for parts. What I was wondering was is if there was anyone who either has cut up Dust models for parts or has played Dust and had models lying around who could suggest which ones might be decently mined for parts for Armada.

In a similar vein, I have stumbled across an outlet for inexpensive outlet for Battlefleet Gothic parts and had a similar question.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen some custom scratch built Star Wars ships around on Google to do with other games, especially Battlefleet Gothic when it was still available.

I would love that link for the Battlefleet Gothic parts to have a look through.

Vykes is the man to talk to.

His AFMK-IIs are suitable inspiration

PM'd one link, I can't find the other, as it took some digging and I am at work and it's bookmarked at home.

A source for some BFG parts, eeeeeeh? You better be willing to defend that one to the death -laughs- Frankly, greebles and other doohickeys from other game systems are a great way to add a little variety without really breaking some of the iconic looks that we've grown to know and love. Don't overlook any model kit for bits. I think about 1/4 of my ships have at least one part that comes from another system, and most of that is BFG, but there's some surprises.

Dust I've never seen around here, so I haven't used any parts but I remember hearing about adding some parts here and there. But BFG and some smaller scale battleship kits can be an incredible source for things like turrets, control surfaces, extra plating, and greebles to detail otherwise bare ship extensions made from everything from plasticard to balsa, lego to Q-tip bodies. They look fine: after all, where do you think Industrial Light and Magic got the parts to actually build the ships in the first place?

RAF's are just begging for conversion, and I think I've cut apart a half dozen by now and each time I've done something fairly drastic to them. The engines can be made from BFG cruiser cores to Apache attack helicopter engines (yeah, one of my secrets out. Apache engine nozzels look uncannily like Carrack/Dreadnaught engines) And BFG Chaos cruisers/Imperial battleships have some of the coolest bridges out there that can be popped on without any real issue. ISD I turrets, upgraded coms, extra hangars, look at your upgrade cards and see what looks like it could be interesting. Don't be afraid to get a bit creative... if I can modify even one of Mel's Assault Frigates with a BFG antenna and turret, you can too.
