Worlds stats

By FrogTrigger, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

FFG posted an interesting article with some stats from the various World Championships:

Few disappointing numbers there for me though, overall only 52,000 twitch views? For all of the events? I understand we will never have DOTA numbers but are table tops really that out of the loop?

I also never realized how popular Netrunner is..

All of the Star Wars games were on the low end for participation (with the exception of X-Wing of course), which is a little disappointing. This got me thinking though, have we peaked? Or is IA still on the rise? It's been out for what, 2 years now? How long did it take X-Wing to cement itself as a major player? My community has failed in these two years to start any type of sustainable player base for skirmish, despite my best efforts. So I am just kind of wondering, has that shipped sailed for me or do you guys think there is still room to grow the game?

Sorry, wrong forum, mispost! :)

I will say I know there were people who play multiple games who didn't participate in multiple games because of the time investment and overlaps. So hopefully, splitting to two tracks will help this year. That being said, we're talking about some of those people trying to come to two different worlds events (unless they only play star wars games or only the other track). But still, I think the split will bring an increase in numbers alone.

I want to know if Imperial Assault was "sold out" which if it was, then the numbers are technically artificially low. And hopefully there will be more room next year with the change. Because I know I'm trying to bring a group out for May Worlds.

All the Worlds tickets for all the games sold out this year, and I overheard an FFG organizer saying that there were about 105 tickets sold. If I recall correctly, 97 players actually attended the IA tournament, and 86 completed it.

So probably artificially low, yes.

The key statistic was only 301 lb of fries consumed. If a bantha rider showed up with so little food available, the poor bantha would starve.

The fact that they have to now hold separate worlds means they are growing. Once the app comes out, this game will explode, so skirmish will benefit. As long as the economy holds up and with magic tanking right now, there is some real room for these games to grow.

Imperial Assault was sold out. A friend of mine didn't get to go because he didn't get a ticket when they went on sale, and another friend had to make top 4 at Gencon to get his spot for the same reason. It could have been a larger tournament if they opened up more seats.

all my events were sold out, so i couldn't go. I wanted to but FFG said no...

Interesting that Australian representation made up 5%, more than most other European Countries.

Maybe they'll start paying attention to us now?
