Over the Death Star

Posted this in a fresh topic, as it's not really a mod/repaint, but just wanted to share...

...found some Death Star tiles for 3d printing on myminifactory, by Israel Melendez, so decided to see what they were like.

Always loved the 'finger' or 'piano keys' tile ever since getting the Star Wars Sketchbook by Joe Johnston all those years ago, so that had to be the first I tried :wub:

After printing, I found that this tile had a base twice as thick as the others, so decided to just mount an FFG small pylon on it permanently, to show off small ships :rolleyes: :

Can't decide if I want to fill the print gaps [i only used 'good' quality to try it out], or if they kinda add to the effect - thoughts, anyone ?

Will maybe just drybrush some lighter greys, but not sure about washing in case it makes it too dark :unsure:

Got another dozen or so tiles to try out...may have a go at making a small half-trench diorama with them :huh:

That makes a great display stand. I have my Millennium Falcon just sitting on it's regular base at work, and this would be perfect for it. Looks like you may have stumbled on a little side hustle...

Personally I think the gaps add character. I thought you had already painted it, actually.

Glad you said that about the gaps, as I thought they kinda added 'depth' without having to do a fancy paintjob...it's just in primer at the moment, but seems like a good base colour...

I'd happily print you [a larger] one and just ask the postage, but you could probably just get one printed locally for less :unsure: - the file for it is here:

I reduced mine from 6" down to 4" square, but the full-size one would probably be ideal for the Falcon ;)
