First Tournament List

By TaeSWXW, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So I've got my first tournament this weekend and I'm fishing for whatever help I can get. I've got a few full-rules matches under my belt and a lot of kitchen-table type stuff so I don't have any grand visions of victory - I just want to learn the game better and have some fun.

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 400/400

Commander: General Rieekan

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Fleet Ambush
Navigation Objective: Minefields

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 78 total ship cost

- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 58 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 51 total ship cost

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Salvation ( 7 points)
- Intel Officer ( 7 points)
- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
= 77 total ship cost

[ flagship ] GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- General Rieekan ( 30 points)
- Quantum Storm ( 1 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 58 total ship cost

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not even trying to go for an initiative bid because I'm not sure I can effectively use it. I'm trying to maximize efficiency, minimize triggers, and figure Rieekan can help cover my inevitable mistakes.
Suggestions?

Watch out for the fleet ambush objective. With flotillas around you may find you face 350 points of fleet very close to your ships and 2 cheap flotillas placed far away. I would take Hyperspace assault instead.

I think I would prefer some defensive upgrades like Admonition and Lando on the MC30s rather than Intel officer and Toryn.

I'd suggest you do want first player, some of the below changes might get you a bid.

Drop Raymus and QS on the lifeboat. Grab Bright Hope.

Consider H9s on the MC30s.

You don't have enough blues for Torryn.

Consider Raymus on Salvation- combined with CF commands, its reds become very reliable. It doesn't need to be an Escort Frigate.

Your anti-squadron strategy is going to be go fast and stay away from bombers, and kill carriers first. Salvation is likely always dead vs bomber lists so make sure it gets its points back in some big shots.

Objectives- Most Wanted is fine- preferably you'd have a flotilla without your admiral on.

Read the thread on the main page about Flambush- its exaggerated, but there still good learning points. Minefields probably better off as Dangerous Territory. Put your three obstacles as close as you can to your deployment, pick up the tokens turn one, and any more are a bonus.

I'd personally swap out a corvette for another flotilla with a couple A Wings or something, but I don't know what you have, and understand your desires with the list.

I guess I can understand making the lifeboat cheaper and more survivable. My thinking was that Raymus and QS kept it in R5 of my guys and handing out tokens.

H9's I'm a little confused about. It seems that it would be more valuable on a ship without any blue dice... but I should be able to get accuracies easily with blue dice, right? Then I lock down their braces and let the Xi7's do their work if they redirect.

Torryn makes sense, easy cut.

Raymus over IO - the more accurate red dice is more valuable than stripping tokens I suppose.

If I had another GR75 I think I'd probably take you up on the final suggestion to cut the second TRC90.

I was waffling on Admo & Lando. It doesn't seem like they'd do all that much... but I guess you have to get your MC30's in place to shoot and if those cards make that happen then they're worth it, right?

Admonition against an ISD-II front shot - you are right, only 1 dice cancelled from such a volley may still be fatal.

Admonition against lots of smaller volleys is fantastic especially with Mon Mothma (but Rieekan is my favourite Rebel commander). You can fly Right through a rhymer ball (once) with admonition and long range parting shots as you retreat after inflicting a big thump on your attack ruin can be easily mitigated.

With only 4 hull on an MC30 and enemy XI7s a possibility you need a defensive upgrade in there. Rieekan may keep you zombified until the turn ends but Admonition can save you 80+ VPs and tip a game into victory.

The difference with the H9s is getting the accuracy *no matter what* vs half the time.

When you are shooting flotillas, thats the difference between 25+ points and getting better activation control, or just completely whiffing.

Against one brace ships, its the difference between 3 and 6 damage.

Raymus doesn,t like Comms Net. Not the way he likes Tantive IV.

Okay, with some of the suggestions in mind, how does this look?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The GR75 changes from a lifeboat to a pocket carrier while Jainas Light attempts to bait my opponent into the rocks or takes potshots from the back. We also now have an initiative bid, H9's, and some A-Wings to screen the MC30's.

Thoughts?

Disturbingly like one of my fleets

looks a lot like my own list, the freaking crackers, although I have Cracken instead of Mothma. I do admit Mothma is a bit better for the Nebulon, as they tend to drop below speed 3 in order to kill stuff, making Cracken kind of useless.

I like it. I would perhaps drop one h9 and add another A-Wing. You still have a decent bid and torpedo frigates tend to have natural accuracies anyway. The 4 A Wings should hold most bomber squads long enough to give you time to kill the carriers. Your only issue would be Imperial aces.

if you don't want too many squadrons, switch 1 A-wing to Tycho.

For me it just comes down to squadron points on the GR75. With the Expanded Hanger I can activate three - so I'm trying to stick to three. I suppose I could just do three Aces?

Final results: 2-1 w/ 16 points

R1: 9-2 victory. My opponent was flying something that looked my first version of the list. He spread out too much and basically fed me his ships one by one.

R2: 1-10 loss. My opponent is one of the big bads in our community. Admo, Yavaris, a pair of GR75s, Rieekan, and aces. He took me apart pretty easily.

R3: 6-5 victory. My opponent brought Mon Karren, anMC80 Home One (without title), and some aces. . I took out the Home One at the cost of my Salvation but couldn't bring down Mom Karren before time.

I think I'm going to need to up my squadron play if I'm going to improve. Putting my commander on the CR90 was effective in keeping them out of harms reach but it did almost nothing damage-wise. I see now why people are using Flotillas for this task though I think they'd get shot up more frequently on the slower vessel.

Thanks for the help with the list!
