Yep I have flown that before.
But it wasn't succesfull.
Accidently I had put them on the table facing into the wrong direction, so they flew off the board in round 1.
Obviously I have never done this. Ever. Honest.

Using the TIE shuttle is a good call. If you don't want palpatine, a shuttle with Hotshot Copilot and Fleet Officer or similar is cheaper than a lambda, and much cheaper to get the magic PS4. Or you can take Tomax Bren/Cool Hand as a pilot for similar price to Yorr and be much tougher.
Oh - and yeah, If you are using Juke and sensor Jammer, if you can git gud with Carnor Jax, he's bloody amazing. His ability is lethal, and I know several people who prefer him to Soontir.
