Kanan Jarrus + Inertial Dampers

By Icelom, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello, I read in a thread someone saying that Kanan Jarrus does not work with Inertial Dampeners (take the stress away for the dampeners the turn you use them) as it works with Segnor's loop title.

I recently played a game against someone running this exact combo, i was surprised but after reading the cards i agreed with him that it works.

What i want to know is does it work? and if no why does it not work.

Thank you,

No, it does not. The reason is that Kanan triggers as soon as you execute the white [stop] move, interrupting the resolution of Inertial Dampeners. That is before the stress is applied, so Kanan is too early to do anything about it.

The Segnor's title is different as both it and Kanan trigger after executing a maneuver. You thus can choose the order of resolution and have the title go first so it applies stress before Kanan resolves.

Kanan can, however, remove any existing stress token your ship might be carrying when you use Dampeners.

Kanan triggers after executing a white maneuver.

Here's the text of ID:

"When you reveal your maneuver, you may discard this card to instead perform a white (stop) maneuver. Then receive 1 stress token."

You finish executing the white maneuver from ID. You resolve everything that triggers after performing a maneuver. Then you receive the stress token.

I agree that it works. I'm curious to see what others say.

I suppose the crux of it is whether Kanan activates before or after the stress is applied, but since the stress and Kanan both trigger after the white maneuver is executed, I would assume they would have every right to apply the stress first and then activate Kanan's ability.

I stand corrected.

"After X do Y" is not the same thing same thing in X-Wing as "Do X, then do Y".

Good to know, this has really been bothering me in matches having a stress free lollistop and action because of Kanaan

The only shenanigans Kanan can do is white move over debris, new falcon title, or lightning reflexes (since its the same trigger as the falcon title w/o the specific maneuver factor).

The cards that do a white move + stress, as indicated already, are different as the stress is applied last.

Its a bit wonky but thats what happens in a miniature game. Rules are never 100% clearcut, theres always slight variants on things. Hence, RAW became a thing lol
