Maximizing Pilot Hera's Ability

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

Any Hera players here? I really like her ability to dodge blocks, anyone else find it really useful? Can anyone give me some advice on how to fly her?

Also, I'm pretty sure you can't put the 1 forward green template down, see that it will block, then pull it back and use a 2 bank - right?

That is correct. Her pilot ability triggers at step 1 of the Activation Phase ("Reveal Dial"; rules reference page 4). Actually placing maneuver templates is done in step 2 of the Activation Phase ("Execute Maneuver"). Once you have placed a template on the table, you can no longer use Hera's ability to shift her dial.

As for getting the most use out of her, you may find she is slightly more useful on the Attack Shuttle than the VCX-100 itself, since her Attack Shuttle Pilot Card has an EPT slot to pick up Stay on Target. Stay on Target lets you "rotate your dial to another maneuver with the same speed. Treat your maneuver as a red maneuver". Thus, you can greatly expand the movement options Hera has when using her ability.

I haven't actually had a chance to fly my VCX yet, so I cannot give much advice beyond that.

Hera W/Autoblaster, AC, EU, Chopper, Intelligent Agent,Title 50

Zeb W/Autoblaster 20

Your duty is to get 4 AB shots against any PS6-. Against PS7+ Aces, you need Intelligent Agent+your skill to go as a blocker. Chopper is for boosting after a red maneuver.

Remember that releasing Zeb to extend your blocking potential is fine and still work. You have Intelligent Agent for it, and is not so difficult to block anyone with undocking maneuver.

Or toss on a Navigator with the VCX, set your dial to 2 hard turn and never look at it again for the rest of the game.

... genius. It took me a second to figure out the "Hera to 3 speed bank/straight, then Navigator to 2 speed bank/straight" to answer the question "What if you get stressed".

Or you decide to K-turn, or slam on the brakes, anything to arcdodge.

Navigator might be one of my favourite upgrades I think. :P . Ever since I used it to take a tournament with an arc-dodging Chiraneau.

A stressed Hera with Navigator that sets a 2 hard turn has to do a 2 hard turn. She has no way to adjust the dial.

Hera doesn't work if you set a white maneuver (until you Navigator to a red or a green). If you are stressed you can't use Navigator to change to a red maneuver. You are stuck with that 2 hard turn if you set it while stressed.

I tend to use Advanced Sensors to make her fly like an Aggressor.

Ah, the white thing, forgot about that. Set it to straight 2 by default instead. It'll give you a choice of 10 maneuvers without blinking.

I don't own a VCX currently, working from misfiring memory here. :P .

This is what I get for second guessing myself! It put in my head should go white to white, not just green/green or red/red.
