Factions

By maul, in Runewars Miniatures Game

When we talk about runewars we have two factions Daqan and No dead ( wayquar the inmortal) and as we all know the elves Latari , I personally imagine that the Uthuk Y’llan will also leave as a faction but there are two factions that also wish the exits Dwarves of the Dunwarr and the Orcs of the Broken Plains

Would you opine? Do you see any other factions?

Those seem the most likely based on their other Runebound universe games. Time will tell. I think the lore book will help as well.

I wouldn't mind a more generic medieval human faction or mercenaries. I think if they nail the elven faction on target with some great looking minis that might be enough to make me happy though.

There aren't any in the setting unless they decide to expand it somewhat. Which is possible!

Daqan seems to be the generic Human army in this world.

In the BattleLore: Command app, there are some humans not affiliated with the Daqan Lords. I don't remember what they're called. It's possible they could be released, but I'd rather see 6 different races before different factions of the same race.

I want Fishmen ;)

I was looking at Battlelore today because it's about 75% off at the moment on the Fantasy Flight Sale, there seems to be some forces which don't have an affiliation 'Razorwings', 'Dragons' and 'Giants'.

It would be interesting to have neutral units both available as Mercenaries to all factions while listbuilding, and possibly as a battlefield terrain/mission element which I don't think any wargame has done yet.

For example a cave on the battlefield where Razorwings live, they will attack the closest enemy but are also worth mission points for clearing them out and/or capturing the cave.

A very interesting idea to actually put neutral units like asteroids in the x-wing, when you have contact with them that attack you

I see plenty of faction possibilities, even outside of the 4 main factions. Whether FFG is capable of releasing a game that actually explores all of the factions in their own setting is another question.

Reroll magazine had an interview where the Runewars people said they were excited for some of the redesigned Uthuk Y'llan, so that faction is basically confirmed in my mind.

The factions of other terrinoth games were asked about generally and they basically just responded that they were going to announce new factions shortly after release. I'm guessing that will initially be only Latari and Uthuk, but they could mix it up and if this game gets any steam at all I'd be surprised to not have Dwarves and Orcs.

Five bucks they don't release Uthuk and the game ends after less than two years.

Look like you need to have a Beast of War "backstage" membership to read issues #2

Ah. Not worth it.

This is both exciting and scary at the same time. On the one hand, it would be neat to see what they can do differently with the Uthuk Y'llan. On the other hand, I'm afraid that it may turn out too much like the chaos armies from Warhammer which were a bit over-the-top for me. I do want to see scorpions in the Uthuk Y'llan army, though, like that Blood Sister leader from BattleLore: Command that rode the two-tailed scorpion thing.

Same, I don't want Runewars art style to be as dark.

If they don't release Uthuk I will be disappointed and less likely to play. I'm fully expecting they show up. They are a big part of the setting.

Absolutely. But I wonder what you thoughts are on the developers saying they are going to change the Uthuk Y'llan? Are you worried at all that it won't be the same faction you know and love?

Granted, there really is no point in worrying about it until we know more.

Too soon to say anything. At this point we really know nothing.

Well they didn't give specifics in the article and the feeling I got from it was that they had redesigned some specific units and made some new twists on the factions, not that they were redesigning the entire thing though. Sorry if I made it sound like that. Either way, the actual quote in the article is very brief and non-specific so it could actually end up going either way. I mostly mentioned it to say that Uthuk appear to already be planned for the game. Is it okay to just post exact quotes from magazines with paywalls like that? Because if it is, then I'll just put the quote up here and you can draw your own conclusions.

I wouldn't risk it. What you've told us is enough. We'll see how the Uthuk look eventually ... maybe. [since they still haven't given us BattleLore elves.]

Such salt ;) . I have to admit I have some trust issues over this as well... but I take comfort in the fact that they never actually told us they'd do Elves. It was just rumors. I mean, they were definitely planning them (otherwise why would the scenario builder have green deployment zones, eh?) With this game we at least have actual interviews and stuff to based our overly-optimistic predictions on.

That's a good point. Elves were expected because they fit the world, not because FFG said anything. That makes it abundantly clear why Christian Petersen (CEO of FFG) has a policy of not talking about unreleased content.

I just can't help but be cautious. I've been drinking the FFG kool-aid for a long time now, but I believe I've reached a point where I'm done with blind buys and pre-orders. I'm very interested in Runewars, but I'm going to wait a bit for this. Not only to catch some reviews, but also to see what kind of support, and how much support, comes with it. The FFG of the last few years is a bit more aggressive than the one I fell in love with back in 2009. If Runewars isn't an instant success it will get dropped within a year. That's a very consistent, and measurable behavior at this point. This time I don't plan on being stuck with a core box sampler with maybe a sprinkling of expansions or half hearted POD's. If they get a full game on the plate I'll absolutely take a look, even if I have to wait a year. I hope to live vicariously through some of you for the next few months while I wait to see how they roll it out. :)
