Han Solo (TFA) ability

Han Solo (TFA) card says: When you are placed during setup, you can be placed anywhere in the play area beyond Range 3 of enemy ships.

I'm just a little curious how it would work if you had initiative and the opponent had another PS 9 pilot or a higher PS.

The way I read it was that when I place Han he has to be beyond range 3 of the enemy ships at that time. When my opponent places his PS9 or higher he could put him within range 3 of my Han because the cards makes it sound like the beyond range 3 limit is just at the time of my placing of Han. Is this the right way to read it?. I'm assuming it doesn't restrict my opponent from placing his ships after Han is placed.

You're correct. Init has no bearing on this - when Han is placed, he has to be >3 away from his enemies but can be anywhere else. There's no restriction on what happens beforehand, not what happens after he's placed, regardless of whether the pilots concerned share his PS or not.

Nope, it does not limit the other player. So yes he can do it. This is one of the reason why I don't find it that hot. Yes it can screw some list. But having Vader or Soontir right in your back from the start does not feel that hot to me.

If I was running it, no way I wouldn't use VI.

I think initiative does have bearing on my question considering my question was basically asking if the ships placed after Han were affected by his ability and ship placement may be based on initiative if Both myself and my opponent have a pilot with the same PS. Guess I didn't clarify what I was getting at well enough.

I plan to use VI but was just trying to keep my question simpler by not adding a bunch of extra details or fluff

Well... yes. If they're both PS9, the person with init places first.

But... init has no bearing on where they can be placed - Han has to go outside range 3 of any enemies that are there when he is placed, any that are placed after have to satisfy their normal placement restrictions. Init only controls when he is placed, not where. TFA Han's pilot ability doesn't change the rules in respect to placement order.

Agreed. He has to be placed at range 3 of currently placed enemy ships. The opposing player doesn't have to place remaining ships at range 3.

I think the loss of the old Han ability + having to take VI make the ability not that hot... I don't say "useless" but I don't find it that good. A ship alone is never a good thing, and your other ship are far back in your starting zone...
