Coming to the End of The Progression Trees

By UberMunchkin, in Dark Heresy

Hi there folks, I've been GMing an active Dark Heresy campaign for a couple of years now and we are approaching the XP cap for the careers that are listed in the book. Given that there is still no release date for the massively delayed Ascension expansion does anyone have any suggestion what to do when we hit that cap?

I was thinking of giving each of the acolytes and intermediate package that I'll have to design for them, something to help round out their skills sets, like a kind of Inquisitorial Advance Training package and then give them a mission to undertake that will advance them out of the ranks of Acolytes.

Opinions?

How about trying out Rogue Trader with new characters? When Ascension comes around, you could go back to DH when the RT crew stumbles onto something they decide to report to the -=I=-.

Not a bad idea, although Rogue Trader got a bit of a lukewarm reception when I showed it to the group.

At the top of the tree, but surely they havent bought all the advaces, and once they hit the top, just pretend there is a rank 9 and allow them to choose another alternate career rank.

Or even pick a rogue trader career to follow

And of course remember that there is no guarantee that Ascension will add ranks after the ones presented in the DH book. It seemed to suggest that they would each get their own whole careers.

There is something like 45,000 XP worth of advances in each career (characteristic and skill/talent). Just let them keep buying advances from their career. Once they've finished that, let them take the alternate ranks in each career (storm trooper instead of sniper) and have them follow that.

That should keep you busy for a while.

I personally have to agree with the RT route, or just rolling up new characters. The XP cap is there so you DON'T end up buying all the advances in the career. Then you get Guardsmen that are over trained (I KNOW they ahve more then 45K in advances) and way too powerful Psykers.
