The Decline of Large Ships

By Undeadguy, in Star Wars: Armada

This week I plan on trying to use an ISD to activate 4-5bombers before shooting the ship. Typically I either strictly use my ships as carriers or as battle ships. So trying to use them as leading right before a big attack could prove interesting.

This works really well with Avenger. Either spend no tokens on defending from those squadrons, or don't plan on using them against the ISD shot.

How did I never think of this? *Furious scribbling and theorycrafting

Did a game at the FLGS tonight with the usual suspect. I had 2 ISD1 w/ Konstatine, Avenger, Relentless, hosted comms, Eng CPT, Hvy TL, MS1, flight controllers, Howlrunner, Rhymer, & 6 Interceptors. He had AF, Paragon, BC, Adar Tallon, ?, a TRC 90, 3x fotilla with Toryn Far, 2xBCC, a comms net, bright hope and Dodona on one. For squads he had 2xHWK, 3xXW, 3xYW, Luke and Nym. He chose 2nd player, I chose AG. In the end, although he was hitting hard with bombers and an AG Paragon, I was able to get Relentless into a perfect front to side shot on first activation and destroy his AF (top of 4 if memory serves). I only lost 2 Interceptors thanks to flight controllers and HR. I was also able to bag the TRC and kill all his squadrons and Relentless survived with one hull. So, I don't think they're dead but you gotta be ready to hit really hard and don't scatter your forces. I thought being first played was going to hurt more but he only had two shooters. His bombers worried me but once I had the HWKs dead, it was downhill from there. Keeping squads next to the ships was critical to keeping them alive longer. I don't think he shot at a squadron the entire game. I am thinking of H9 to kill flotillas but that makes it a bit less effective against other large ships.

I love that I made a statement based on the observation that a lot of people are running carrier MSU or swarm lists and large ships aren't being seen or talked about as much, and EVERYONE loses their mind saying large ships are still good and proceeded to go play games with large ships, just to prove my observation wrong.

Turns out FFG doesn't dictate the meta.

I do.

I'm expecting this particular kind of setup to be even more popular with Jerrjerrod out. You can set your ISD-I super carrier battleship to speed 3 and mainline Squadrons and Engineering commands while still getting 4 clicks worth of turning every turn so you can finally use an ISD-I as both a gunboat and a carrier simultaneously with minimal hassle. The Avenger title is just additional gravy, and don't forget Jonus for that guaranteed Brace lock-down ;).

You're not my Real Zombie!

...

Besides, I spent money on my big ships. I'm using them. That's the sole reason why I ran MC80 + Liberty.... >.>

Time for you to start an article about cluster bombs and yv-666's

You called?!

There is still the large flag ship with squadrons and flotillas to support the squadrons.
