Special Expansions (Alternate paint scheme for already released models)?

By Marinealver, in Star Wars: Armada

So this is something that is done in X-wing and that is the alternate paint expansions where they take a ship that has already been released, give it a special paint job and release it between waves (i.e. Imperial Aces). So that got me thinking, is it possible that the same practice could be put into Armada. So some things I have been thinking. So what would the expansion contain.

  • Multiple ship expansion: So a traditional 2 for one deal. It could be a medium ship and a small ship (like VSD and a Raider) or a large ship and a squadron (Like ISD and TIE Interceptor).
  • 3rd and 4th configurations for a ship: Like an Imperial Raider III or a CR-90 Corvette D. More configurations could make for more interesting fleet designs.
  • more upgrade to include non-unique titles: Sort of like Death Squadron for ISDs. You could have it as something that makes ISDs more powerful if they are near another ISD.

So what do you think a special expansion set should or should not have?

No paint schemes lol, I already took care of that with mine. But I would enjoy new ship types(3's and C's all around).

Alternate cards like Imperial Nebulon or Raider III may be better of in the next campaign pack like the all card Corellian Conflict expansion.

I suppose they could release alternate paint scheme packs but that would require extra product codes and possibly annoy retailers. Maybe with an initial release of a ship model bring out 2 paint schemes and just randomise them in each pack. It would help out FLGS allowing players to choose the colour or take their chances online.

I think its a certainty. There are so many options here. A great way to provide more options and more paint schemes for established models. I think this may be even more important for Armada because we don't want to lose the authenticity of the game by bringing in wave upon wave of even more divergent ship designs.

I think an "Emperors Guard" expansion with red ISD and red Tie Interceptors and a collection of his favourite flunkies and hangers on would be great.

Or you could do "battle of denab" with 2 VSDs and some new titles and upgrades.

I think you might be talking about something different. I am talking about a special expansion which uses alternate paint schemes not custom paint schemes. Besides aside from Destiny FFG doesn't put in randomization inside their expansion packs. But something more like this below but only for Armada.

So what would be in an Armada "Aces" pack.

  • Multiple ships: I'm thinking Medium & Small or Large and Squadron/Flotilla.
  • Different configuration cards. Such as Raider IV or CR-90 C.
  • Of course upgrades (and pilots if there are squadrons) for those specific ships.

That being said, what ships or squadrons would you start with and how would you want them to be pared?

X-Wing Aside.

For Armada, it was stated flat-out by Developers that if they were going to do alternate titles, then a campaign box similar to Corellian Conflict would be the delivery vector. But that there was no plans for that to happen....

Was that from an Inflight meeting? Or did you just send a bunch of Bothans to their death for that information?

Was part of one of the quick developer interviews the guys here had with them at GenCon.

Same one where they stated they were looking at the possibility of a Demolisher Nerf, but were also not that concerned, because they were sure the Meta would figure out with the new releases...

... Which, it looks like it basically did.

(I just have a near eidetic memory at times for things like that... Its why I'm so into Rules... I hear it mentioned or read it, and its stored away for future reference).

Please no. I don't want to have to buy more of the same models I already have to get access to cards. If they're willing to sell the cards separately at a reasonable price, I'm all for that. I'm also all for bundling ships for easy access for newcomers. I just don't want to have to re-buy ships I already have in order to get access to exclusive cards.

This. But that is also why I have only bought one of each in anticipation of this happening.

I'd be...."okay" with something like this IF...

They did less a repaint/new cards and more an "alternate build/faction" release. Like a white SD1 from Rebels boxed with a blue trim CR-90 or Assassin Corvette with slightly different stats than the rebel one, and appropriate cards. Or a rebel set with an alternate MC-80 with customization "blisters" you could attach at different spots for individuality (or possibly a defected Victory 1?) and repainted "medical" Frigate (or even spoil us and give us a Neb 2?).

Nobody *has* to them...they just would. :)

It's nice to dream. :)

So at worlds they were keeping Demolisher stats least for the Friday action ...

I found that .... interesting.
