Biggest "Paper Tigers" in the meta

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

Some ships awaited with fear, yet turned to be just medicore at best:

Quickdraft - ouch ouch all this shooting at not tokended ships....

Hera Syndulla in VCX-100 with accuracy corrector, autoblaster turret and docked shuttle. Heve you seen this build?

Tel Trevura - rise from the dead with 2 hull, Overpowered! Really?.

Ac abt phantom ghost was the bees knees until it was made clear that zeb crew would not be playing ball

The non-Ron-con special.

Not so much list, but just fenn rau aka the most overrated pilot out of wave 9 and potentially any wave ever

Hes almost as common as x7s out here; im getting bored of walking all over him

4 hull and no guaranteed mitigation apart from title does not a scary thing make

so I guess, by extension, anything with Fenn Rau is a paper tiger

esp fearlessness Rau; that's just hilarious when you have Biggs

Norra. While she seems like she will live, once Biggs is dead, she crumples like a wet noodle. 5 dice might be nice that one round, but good luck getting it again with full modes.

I disagree yoy need biggs to fly arcs. Ive had great success so far with a triple arc list (regen norra with ezra crew, thane with r7t1, and gunner braylen). I have yet to wish i had biggs instead. Ive also been very successful with early tests of a norra/ghost build, and plan to test out norra dash.

idk

not everyone can love em like I do

hell, the only reason I ever picked them up was because the models are simply the best in the entire game. I had no idea they'd be this good, or any good at all :o

2-die primaries are pretty worthless at the cost, after all, but with the right astromechs and crew the ship becomes far more than the sum of its parts

but it is a ship that looks absolutely, putridly useless without some table time

for worlds in particular, I don't recall seeing that much Biggs. That, more than anything, is why you probably don't see a lot of ARCs. As great as Norra is, Miranda is simply far safer without that buffer to hide behind

I definitely agree with them looking useless without table time. From the time they were first spoiled I had no interest in them and didnt think they looked very good. Wasnt until my i built my triple arc list I realized how great they were.

I also am of the opinion that fenn is not a paper tiger as long as you arent using fearlessness. Ive had great results with ptl fenn, with losses generally being because I flew poorly

Norra. While she seems like she will live, once Biggs is dead, she crumples like a wet noodle. 5 dice might be nice that one round, but good luck getting it again with full modes.

I guess I'll go with dengaroo. I've only played against it maybe 4 times now, and I think I lost all 4 times, however every loss was by 1 hit point, maybe 2 hit points once, so as close as can be.

Basically just needed luck to go my way at the end of games which it hasn't yet.

Edit: Can you even fit a proper Corran in if your running the popular 56 point Rey (New title, Finn, Kanan, ???)

Without Hull Upgrade, yeah.

You can be PS8 with PTL, PS10 with VI, or PS9 with Adaptability/Hull Upgrade.

Seems a bit hyperbolic to call tournament winning lists paper tigers (ie a complete non-threat). If you at all have to think about a ship or list while building your own list, I'd say that disqualifies it as a paper tiger.

But it sure is cool to say paper tiger.

I think you guys are getting the term "Paper Tiger" confused with "Overrate"

Merriam Webster (online) states:

Paper Tiger, n. someone or something that appears powerful or dangerous but is not.

Overrate, v. to rate, value, or praise (someone or something) too highly.

I think this thread unknowingly became kind of a b***h session for lists that don't quite perform the way we would like it to when we wish to crush the opposition.....true? Maybe "Paper Tiger's" would be ones we wouldn't fly at all, since we're all so highly educated via playing, watching, and reading this amazing forum. Again, my vote:

I'll say the biggest Paper Tiger that I can think of is Juno Eclipse. Before she came out, the forum was going crazy with all the moves that she could do. Juno would have so many green moves and would be just moving like crazy. She never made a splash on the scene.

There were a lot of Fen's at the most recent regional in the Netherlands. A Fen list won, and there was another in the top 8 as well.

In the right Mindlink squad, the dude is an awesome playing experience. He's incredibly fun, like a falcon that hangs on the edge of the fight and then swoops in for a 5 dice kill. Or, he plays like fearless boss, diving into a head on range 1 joust with a Defender, and winning the exchange handily. An awesome ship to fly, and very competitive.

But yes, if you park him at range 2 of a few ships, he will evaporate.

This.

All respect to the OP, but I think if it's a paper tiger, then it's likely not part of the meta.

That being said, I find Tactician to be a paper tiger. Scary on paper but hasn't had much of an impact in the matches where I've faced it.1
