Best All Same Ship Build

By GameError, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Trying to figure this out. I have two ways of approaching it- either only use one type of ships, but can use different pilots and upgrades, OR the more challenging version- use the same ship for the whole build.

For example, a classic Howlrunner Tie Swarm would be the first approach (and the first really good one that comes to mind) while 4 Red Squadron Pilots with Targeting Astromech and Integrated Astromech is an answer to the second.

Any other ones that people think could be really good? The one I'm kind of most excited about is 4 Zeta Specialists with Fire-Control- it's a fair amount of health and firepower, and the rear arc would make it hard for aces to avoid them.

Omega Specialist x 3, 99 Points

Crack Shot

FCS

Concussion Missiles

Guidance Chips

Primed Thrusters

Been wanting to try this one. Not sure if it's good, but it's flexible and fairly maneuverable. Can swap out the Concs and PT for Homing Missiles, but you become much more predictable.

An A-Wing crack swarm for identical ships: 5 Green Squadron Pilots with Adaptability, Crack Shot, Autothrusters, Chardaan Refit, and A-Wing Test Pilot. Also triple Defenders with 3 Glaive Squadron pilots with the x7 title and Crack shot. Also 4xTLT Y-Wings.

For different upgrades/pilots you've got Dengaroo if that counts, or any of the 3 Defender lists with the other defenders.

The "Baby Blues" list comes to mind as far as the latter goes-

Blue Squadron Novice (24) x4

-R2 Astro

-IA

I haven't actually played it (lacking enough T-70s) but supposedly in the hands of a skilled pilot it's pretty good.

Other stuff off the top of my head that I've seen before:

Glaive Squadron Pilot (34) x3

- Crack Shot (1)

- TIE/X7

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) x5

- Concussion Missiles (4)

- LRS (0)

Gold Squadron Pilot / Syndicate Thug (18) x5

- Autoblaster Turret

Gold Squadron Pilot / Syndicate Thug (18) x4

- TLT (6)

- R2 Astro / Unhinged Astro (1)

Tansarri Point Veteran (17) x4

- "Heavy Syck" Interceptor (2)

- Autoblaster (5)

- Fearlessness (1)

[OK the last one is mostly just silly but if I had the cards I'd definitely be trying it out]

Oh man, Fearlessness would work with Autoblaster cannon! That's super-dumb, but would be hilarious to see. Could you imagine getting 4 unblockable hits against like, a Soontir or Whisper?

I actually do have enough T-70's to try the Baby Blues I think- I got 1 core set, 2 expansions and 1 HoTR, but I only have 2 R2 Astromechs (can't believe they only packaged that thing with the Rebel Y-wing), otherwise I would very much like to try it- it sacrifices the pilot skill and action economy of 4 Red Squadron pilots with Targeting, but gains 4 shields, a better dial and the boost action, so it seems like a good call. Especially because the drop from PS4 to PS2 probably won't matter in most matches. (Unless you were fighting 4 Zeta Specialists, then it would matter a lot!)

I feel like people are getting a little too complacent with their ace heavy-lists and 2 or 3 ship meta. I want to just bring out 4 or 5 ships and start hurling dumb amounts of dice.

Looking forward to spamming tie strikers.

I ran a 4 Zeta TIE S/F swam with FCS that was pretty durable and good at having firing Arc! 2pts for each ship spend how you want. also if ny of your ships get front & rear arc on something you can fire from both!

This also seems like a good for fun tournament format. I would prefer the same named ship over same ship type!

7 ships total with two conc. missles, two ion missles, and 2 tracers. Guidance chips are opional but if you have them then why not.

Been playing a ton of 5x Cartel's myself. Lots of fun for casual games, but would depend if you're looking for something tournament worthy or not.

Something Different:

Poe Dameron — T-70 X-Wing 31

Lone Wolf 2

R5-P9 3

Pattern Analyzer 2

Vectored Thrusters 2

Black One 1

Ship Total: 41

Red Squadron Veteran — T-70 X-Wing 26

Wingman 2

R2 Astromech 1

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 29

Red Squadron Veteran — T-70 X-Wing 26

Wingman 2

R2 Astromech 1

Integrated Astromech 0

Ship Total: 29

The RSQ's actually work in tandem to keep Stress off or they can help Poe and you can change up the EPT's to fit your play style.

There is also this list which I like to call "suck it vader"

A-Wing: Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Push The Limit (3)

XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Guidance Chips (0)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

The action economy is pretty nuts as you can ptl every turn as long as you keep the ships in pairs at least and if you use a tracer you can give all the ships locks at the cost of a single attack

3 Trandoshan slaver with Engine Upgrade might work

Or pack some ordanance on them.

There are a few triple Defender combos out there that seem pretty brutal.

There's two I can think of that come to mind (which haven't been mentioned yet).

4 hwk's (scum); I forget many of the details, but I do remember this list making a couple of waves not too long ago. If I remember rightly it was Palob & Torkhil, plus 2 spice runners. Everyone had tlt's, and the spice runners had feedback arrays. There was some combination of crew on there, but I forget exactly.

The other thing (which may not be so interesting) is the b-wings...

Either 4 blue sq with advanced sensors/fcs, or maybe 4 dagger sq's with a more minimal loadout.

Lists with many b-wings have always been great fun for me to fly, sadly they're not usually a great meta choice...

Thug Life anyone?

Indeed. Massed Y-wings with Twin Laser Turrets has tournament credits to its name.

Baby Blues has some legs as well.

I want to try a TIE/fo mini-swarm of 5 Omega Squadron Pilots with Wired, Primed Thrusters, and Twin Ion Engines MkII.

3 Glaives with x7 and Crackshot is a solid entry, if each ship has to be identical.

I remember a while back I saw someone win some tournaments with a triple HWK list- Palob, Dace and Torkil. He had Predator on Palob and Dace, which comboed very well with Torkil's ability. I think he squeezed in a Z-95, but I'm pretty sure it'd be possible to just load up the HWK's a bit more, or conversely load them a little less and put in an extra HWK. That seems like a fun list though, completely designed around making the opponent's ships worse at things.

This is it really, the absolute pinnacle of same ship lists

2 glaives and vess eith x7s and crackshot

Ptl tiemk2 ryad and juke vess and a lowly delta; all x7ed and with a bid to screw over palp defenders

Dont like juke vess (you heathen)? Predator steele for one more point

Out ps other defenders but no bid for ryad sadly

Lists that meet this criteria & perform well in the current meta are really only Triple Defenders (of which, there are several permutations), and quad TLT Ys.

As both of these things are IN the current meta, you could start trying to see how other "samsies" lists would compare to them.

Crack TIE swarms get a nod, but they have such a high skill ceiling, that I'm not sure the actually count.

I think 5 Green Squadron A Wings with AT, Adaptability and Crackshot did pretty well for a while. Switching out Adaptability for Trick Shot might be a way to bump up the list's firepower to make it more competitve, since the PS3-4 won't matter as much now that torp scouts are on the outs.

I'd kind of love to see a quadruple Lambda build (or triple, if you want that many upgrades I guess). It would get murdered by anything that slips past them, but hey, 40 health!

I've always been intrigued by the Feedback Array Z-swarm. I know it's not very good, but it still seems interesting to me. I'd like to try it some time.

5 omegas with predator....

its like howlrunner without the howlrunner

5 omegas with predator....

Or with Crack Shot and Weapons Guidance. Similar effect as a classic crack swarm on the opening pass, but slightly better in an extended fight.
