By Dicetales, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

is every character via able solo? in the core?

"e.g Lotr lcg.. don't play core tactics! "

or will it take some mythos pack to make some characters types solo able?

only played Roland and Wendy so far.. and Wendy only 2 player.. but from my few games Wendy takes a while to set up some times..rogue.. class..lacked killing power to clear enemies..until certain combos came around

would be to early to call its a support class?

if so what would be the best solo class?

really enjoying it and it took 3 games to get most of the rules right

at 1st i wondered how Roland would get past the ghoul priest but have since found a few ways which i like.. dynamite/Dodges/getting lucky Pistoling/

Wendy i don't foresee many ways other then evading it..

yet to play the other characters yet!

Well, since you're already playtesting, best way to find out the answer is to dig right in and tell us your results!

I'd say everyone can solo the campaign just fine, although you may not be happy with their resolutions.

With Wendy, I used a combination of Backstab and Dig Deep, recycle Backstab with Wndy's Amulet, takes a lot of resources but delivers plenty of damage.

Grim Resolve?

Sorry I meant - Dig Deep!

Edited ;)

Skid and dynamite blast for 3 damage, plus discarding a knife for 2 extra fists and +1 damage, use hard knocks for extra fists just to be sure. So unless you get an auto fail, you can one shot the ghoul priest ☕️☕️☕️

Quite resource heavy, but I got lucky in my game, I drew 3 elder signs !! So an extra 6 resources right there.

I did it with Daisy first try on the night i got my game but i already knew what to expect from watching demos and playthroughs. I was at 4 damage and 6 horror, the 2nd agenda had just flipped so the next turn would have certainly mean my defeat. First i used mind over matter fast action so its free and doesn't give attacks of opportunity. Then i threw my knife at the ghoul priest, then shrivelling it and then finally punch it. Fortunately, i had 5 resources to spent for arcane initiate and 5 cards in hand for discards so i was quite safe as long as i don't draw the auto-fail.

I used the default deck except that i took 2 overpower, 2 guts and 2 unexpected courage instead of the flashlights, perception and manual dexterity.

every character should be "soloable" it may be more difficult with certain ones, also depending on how many core sets you have to tweak their decks. IMO the best solo char is either Roland or Wendy.

Man I don't know how you guys are soloing so well with Roland. I've tried it twice and got beat the heck up both times.

after 4 times you get to know the basic deck a bit :-) and possible what nasty things might happen to you

looking forward to doing this the other characters

You have to try to use Roland's ability at each turn if able because that THE way he collects clues. For example, during the first and the third adventure, I was in room with two clues, 4 in occult, and a cultist in an other place. So, I went to that place, let the cultist engage me, go back to my spot and shot the cultist in order to collect one of the clues.

The other way is to use your knowledge, espacially with torch lamp, because you just have 3 points.

just want to make sure this was not all one action.,.

Dynamite if in same locations would have promoted an opportunity attack... as its not an evade or fight.. (so 3 dyna dam +2 ghoul dam and 2 horror..) if you stab then dynamite you might skip the opportunity attack.. as its dead?

the knife is its own fight action you could discard on a successful attack for 2 damage.... you couldnt discard to combine with the dyna could you?

so 2 shots rather then one shot..

i love hard knocks in Wendy felt like i as burgling whisky and bottling monsters

Yep - I evaded first, then two actions, so what I meant was you could kill it in 1 turn.

I doubt highly that Agnes works too well solo, but the rest of them seem okay.

Agnes can do just fine solo -- probably better than Daisy -- but both those fine ladies can really benefit from having a second core so as to get a few more spells and tomes in their decks.

I'm kind of confused about why Agnes seems to be many people's pick for 'least viable character'. I can see how she could be hamstrung with a single core set, but with two she's definitely (and unexpectedly) my favourite investigator to play. Shrivelling is really reliable for combat and the extra damage you can bring by exploiting Forbidden Knowledge - even out of phase - makes her really versatile when it comes to dispatching enemies. She may find investigating a little harder, but there's always Drawn to the Flame for those locations where a Flashlight or Arcane Studies can't cut it.

I agree about the Agnes situation.

Daisy's the least-suited to combat of the base five investigators. To make up for it, she hoovers up clues like a singularity, but if you're playing her solo even a dainty, petite ghoul is a serious threat. Balancing survivability vs. clues in a solo Daisy game is tough work, and pretty fun to figure out.

Agnes is one of the most self-reliant investigators out there right now. She does great damage, has access to the weird spell effects, can stack the encounter deck in her favor, and has 5 Willpower to resist the worst of the random junk the encounter deck throws her way.

I plan on playing as Daisy and Agnes solo any tips? I like more brain over brawn chars.

Daisy's definitely the weakest fighter, but I find that the starter decks generally have more options to boost fighting than they do investigating. 3 Intellect gets to be really problematic when you have to start finding things in the cellar.

Agnes holds her own fighting just fine - between her spells and a baseball bat she's quite the respectable beater.

I found Daisy a lot easier to solo once I had some xp to buy a pair of encyclopaedias. Really made things a lot more manageable.

The Gathering only: succeeded first attempt with Roland, but took 5 attempts with Daisy to succeed. I'm going to give Wendy a try then start a campaign.

I like the Lore-heavy characters, but Daisy seemed to need better specific card draw to be effective since both her attack and evade scores are low. I didn't get a Tome draw until my last game, which I'm sure was part of the problem. Double Core set would probably help as Mind over Matter becomes a key card; right now I'm just using the Starter deck construction.

Roland has been my go to for me playing one deck. I've only really used the core set suggestions for dual deck solo play. Tried using skid's solo and got wrecked but didn't know his deck through and through. I think it's all about knowing what and when to play.

With Wendy, I used a combination of Backstab and Dig Deep, recycle Backstab with Wndy's Amulet, takes a lot of resources but delivers plenty of damage.

Quite similar to the sneak attack - Gandalf combo from LotR. I love those. Feels like cheating =)

I'll give you guys how I manged with Daisy and Agnes when I get the game next month wish me luck :D

I haven't played them all solo yet, but I know Agnes is.

I got a neutral (neither win nor lose) ending, but the chance I'd win (based on possible bag draws) was over 95% (and I got the 5%).

So, I had to settle with a neutral ending.

Agnes was a bit tough; you really had to plan out when to use Shriveling (if you only had 1 core set).

I'd assume it'd feel similar with Daisy (except that Daisy is not quite as good at casting spells so she'd need more of a boost for it too). It does help that she gets clues so quickly that she'd be able to start fighting sooner though.
