Would thoses cards after changes still be playable/become playble?

By Zura, in X-Wing

My playgroup decided to go and change some cards, aka "unoficcial faq" and i'm not really sold on it. What do you think about these changes?

1) Tie x7 now costs 2 points instead of -2

2) R2-D2 costs 6 points.

3) All E-wings costs 2 less.

4) "Whisper" is banned.

I'm recently a defender player and it hurts me a lot. How would you build in this enviroment? Probably tie/d are now better?

I would

A) find other people to play because those are entirely based off what people like (why no Whisper, but Dengar, palp, etc are fine???)

B) run soontir,OL etc. Just to show that those nerfs are entirely random and poorly designed.

No.

1) x7 is now useless and will never be taken.

2)R2-D2 is pretty expensive as is, either focus him down or don't spread out your damage on him it really is that easy.

3)hahahahahahahaha, do the same for defenders then sure it will make x7 usable again, heck makes the /d more likely to be used too

4)banning a single pilot that hasn't seen real play in a while is kinda dumb.

I would tell my opponent I'm playing as according to the rules I don't want to play by house rules that are arbitrarily made, and clearly favor one faction over another. (since 2 and 3 directly do a total sum of 0 point ajustment for the e-wing with r2-d2)

Looks like someone really likes e wing / corran in that group as the points changes has no effect on r2-corran,

Not sure why the 4 point swing on x7 defenders, looks like pure salt for that one, same with no whisper, none of these make any real sense

Im gonna ho out on a limb and say whisper wouldnt be playable :P

I'd disagree with all of those with the exception of number 3.

The others seem exceedingly arbitrary. The X7's cost is due to the loss of warhead and cannon slots, R2 is fine as is, and Whisper is hardly gamebreaking enough to be banned. The only time a Phantom pilot even got close to being banned in my LGS was Echo due to the fact that people were taking 5 minutes to decloak her before FFG mandated that you choose the facing of the strip beforehand.

All in all, I get the feeling that as soon as this group gets a good trouncing by a given list, there will be a new set of 'house rules' that come into play until there's enough handicaps in play to make winning easy.

As i expected, it's pretty dumb. Anyway, i don't have any other people to play, so i will probably just switch to tie/d defenders. It's rather a casual group and people found tie/x7 and whisper impossible to deal with, but (my mistake probably) i was still ocassionaly running them and it resulted in those changes.

Or give them your list and design a list against your own list and fly that, show them casually how your list may be defeated.

Or take a non hypercompetetive Whisper, I like her with Navigator and Ruthlessness for instance.

Probably the only acceptable change is the one affecting the e-wing.

It is not so easy to create balanced house rules: if you start "managing" some cost/pilot/ability, you will probably have to "check" everything.

We are still looking for a fix of the hwk-290 from the first waves!

What do they fly? aside from E Wings

I am a proud "fix and improve fan". Your game, your rules. We play two different x wing...

1- In my house. Many nerfs and variants. No need to worry about super combos becsuse 90% of playing time is about scenario play. Not Buy your own fleet.

2- LGS casual. Ready to play by the book unless playing with one habitual player.

If you play with your friends FIX THE GAME. X wing nerf, TLT nerf, etc. Simply extra green dice if firing TLT Rng 3 and problem solved.

While I don't agree with the "nerfs" I still feel that the X/7 title should have been "...you may peform a free evade action...". It would still be crazy good but it could be counterplayed.

Two guys are playing rebel regen all the time (Poe, Corran, Ethan, Norra - they switch between those), one guy is mostly playing decimator with some tie fighters and final one is scum player, using Dengar with Guri with midlink or some "scum aces", using Fenn Rau and Guri pretty often.

P.S: We play a lot of team epic too.

Maybe it's time for a TIE swarm again. Honestly, this group sounds like they just lack the capability to combat an effective list. I'm sure if you showed up with a good solid list from another faction, the nerfing would start all over again. If they can't cope with a solid list without nerfing the hell out of it, it tells me they're pretty lame players.

My suggestion would be to mix things up as much as you can. Never play the same ships twice. Make it so they have absolutely no idea what you're going to show up with next. They won't be able to suggest ongoing nerfs if they can't predict what you're going to use next.

These house rules are just totally biased to what certain people like ir don't like.

I mean no one touches on Zuckuss, Manaroo, The Emperor and the like, but you hit Rebels, Whisper (why ffs Whisper?) and Defenders with the nerfbat hard.

This makes absolutely no sense and i would just tell them to play according to the standard rules or look for another playgroup.

And should you want to disgust them just go play Dengaroo all the time. In that meta you can't lose with it...

Maybe you should start to play better instead trying to ban or nerf everything you cannot cope with

No those are terrible changes and if they try to force them on you find another group, clearly they just want to stack things in their favour.

Concerning Whisper, do they know of the cloak change of 2015? If not, look up the FaQ and show them.

House rules are only house rules if everyone involved agrees to them, and I mean everyone. These are some of the stupidest rules changes I have seen, no offense to you Zura, but these have been play tested over and over and your friends making changes like these are plain dumb. It sounds like these people don't know how to counter these ships, so instead make stupid rulings.

I would figure out a way to include whisper and /x7's in the same list....

I am sorry you find yourself in this situation mate. Good luck trying to change it.

How old is your group if you don't mind me asking?

High schoolers mostly. This isn't even the first situation - in board game talisman, half of characters is straight up banned; in got lcg baratheons have some power cards banned etc. I usually just adapt, but it doesn't feel right at all. They are pretty cool guys after all, they just like to sense "OP" things and nerf them/ban them to "bring balance". In my city there are many active groups, but most of them play during the week, and i have **** ton of work then and i have only saturdays free and it's pretty unpopular day to play for most non-casual people.

Them playing the 2014 meta...

Kinda like the japanese soldiers that were found on Pacific islands that still thought they were at war!

Sounds like you are stuck between a rock and a stupid place. Be hard to enjoy playing in that environment. I have a good board game group, and if things were arbitrarily banned, it would soon splinter. Gaming is about having fun, these guys seem to have the opposite affect on you, game wise.

I think the last Japanese solider surrendered in about 1970 something. Now that's commitment.

Maybe ask your group to switch to backgammon
