All Images have now been Re-hosted for those of you wanting to pick up any tips or have a play and build something diffrent

using a Z95. This Page shows you How to build a Viper Conversion.

And all the tricks along the way :D

All the best and Happy Reading !

..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................

After Posting some Pic's of Custom Z95's in Williams1134 Thread.

It got me thinking......what Else can you do with a Z95.

I then looked at one of my model VIPER's from Battle Star Galactica and thought, Hmmm that could work ;)

I like the VIPER from the New Series.....But I still prefer the Original 70's VIPER.

So that is what I will use as a reference for the Z95 modification.

There are a lot of allowances for the Z95 shape and I still want it to be recognised as a Z95.

Things like the Cockpit canopy, engines and the main body.

just need to change the configuration of a few things and alter the shape here and there.

and scratch build some plastic sheet wings.

Its NOT meant to be an exact copy of a VIPER, just a............Tribute to a great looking Fighter :D

First thing to do was to cut off the wings, engines and weapons,

z2h0sb.jpg

Then remove the " Hump " on the back for one of the engines to sit directly behind the cockpit.

and trim the nose section down.

5GNEWO.jpg

The Engines then had to be separated with a Scalpel and trimmed.

and while Building the Z95 I decided to start modding a T70 that I had sat in bits in a box !

Everything is Glue welded together with EMA Plastic Weld, Humbrol also make something similar, both come in glass bottles.

The underside has been shaved clean, and engines lined up with the centre fuselage

Side detail added at a 45 degree angle between the upper and lower engine nacelles

Scribing the panel lines on the wings and tail fin.

Now adding the trimmed down laser cannons on each wing.

The model is now complete and just in need of some tidying up and a coat of primer to see what it looks like.

That is going to be a great looking ship! Great job. I'm always in awe of all the stuff on this subforum, i just got into painting, and i'm terrible.

(Secretely i'm still learning to colour between the lines).

Ok in response to the new post, it IS a great looking ship. WOW!

Along with the Z95, I'm modding a left over T70 with a similar approach, but this one is just a made up wild configuration.

Thank You Tam,

Its Sat in Grey Primer at the Moment.

I will give it a fine sanding tomorrow.

then Pant it in the Galacttica scheme.

All the best,

Barry.

Both models Are completed, and are currently primed.

They need some fine sanding and then ready for Paint :D

Here are the models before paint priming............

Wow. These are amazing. Great job! I can't say i've seen a huge amount of Battlestar, but i might have to start watching it.

If I had my own personal starfighter in the Star Wars universe, I would fly the **** outta the one on the left!

Another couple of absolute stunners, Barry. Awesome!

I just can't get over your vision, being able to see the possibilities of these conversions - I thought the ShadowCaster into the Raider's flying wing was amazing, but the final result of this is like the ship morphed from one to the other - great work!

I will be honest, never was a fan of the Viper for some reason, To me it just looks weird, that said, I am amazed at the talent to turn a great Z-95 into a Viper

Mad skills as always Barry!!

Thank you Ian.

Its just a question of looking at something and seeing something else in it.

Design wise everything has a certain flow to it. and doesn't take much to push it one way or the other.

if you look at the steps I took with the Viper, you can see how simple a process it is......well at least I think it is

hopefully by showing the step by step, it looks simple to others.....should anyone else want to make one !

All the best,

Barry.

yes it Is an odd looking thing, and Like Stat Wars....most of the Vehicles wouldn't aerodynamically work in real life !

its to nose heavy and the wing area has to much of a dihedral angle....but then its a fantasy spaceship :D

Thanks and all the best,

Barry.

Mad skills as always Barry!!

Thanks Cyco :P

Here are The Z95 & T70 in primer, that allows me to see what they really look like and clean up some of the surface

and edge detail, before going to final paint.

I also quickly sketched in the canopy windows to get gist as to what the will look like.......

Just wow... Awesome work there. Wow.

Fantastic as always! Thanks for sharing! :)

Oh I really like this one. Not that I don't like the rest of your stuff, but for some reason the 'Viper Mark Zed' just looks so damned sexy. I might just steal this idea for one of my own Zeds! :)

Amazing work on that Viper!

Barry, please don't take this the wrong way but I hate you!

You make the conversion for Z to Viper look so, so easy. Beautiful work, as always.

I have to ask. What do you use to hold the model while you're doing the cutting? If I tried hand held surgery like this I'd end up with bloody stumps.

Barry has full-metal-jacket fingertips! :D

What few know is that there is a system beyond the outer rim, in wild space, where the currents of the main hyperspace routes deposit most of the debris of the void. In this system an enterprising space mechanic and ship builder has a sprawling station devoted to building and rebuilding the wrecks that drift nearby. Racers, hot-shot mercenaries, and gentle-beings of fortune will venture there to acquire some of the most exotic ships in the galaxy. They call it...Harker's Hacks and FighterWerks. (Someone do that in neon aurebesh please)
