Upgrade cards question -- master list?

By TurboCooler, in X-Wing

So, my son and daughter have been playing with me for some time.

We play with family and other families we know.

My son wants to now play in a tournament. I figure, since I am going to be there, I might as well play too.

Now, I know about the X-wing builder. I see as you are building you can click on the Upgrade button -- Astomech for example.

Then is shows you a list of Astomechs that you can choose. Cool!

What I was wondering is if there is a spreadsheet or database or something where I can see what cards come with all the kits so I can match that to what we own and know what I might want to purchase. We do not have one of everything like some other do and I can borrow some ships/cards from friends but I would need to know what to ask.

So, is there a master list where I can cross reference?

Is there a minimum set of minatures/kits you should purchase to have most of the good cards? We are not trying for world championships here. Just local stuff within our state. Should he actually be good enough to win and want to play in larger tournaments I will deal with that at that time. Since he has a passion for this right now I don't want to stop him. He promissed to do extra chores if he could go.

My concern is that I know a lot of the people at that game shop where we will play and they own literally everything. I am looking to help my son and my self to be competative but do not care if we actually win. I feel it is important that he plays and interacts with others and if he looses, he learns and does not give up but keeps trying.

Help, suggestions welcome.

Oh, and I guess it would help if I said my son would probably play an Empire build and I would like to play a Rebel Build -- just because. We have no Scum and do not want to purchase any right now and hope I can borrow what we need and only purchase a few we may need.

If you're using this X-Wing builder:

http://xwing-builder.co.uk

...then you can actually get the information you're looking for right there. If you want to know what you've got, you can use the collection function to input the expansions you've bought, and the builder will grey out cards you don't have. And it shows next to each card what expansion(s) they come in. :)

As for what you "should" get, it really depends on the kind of fleets you and your son would like to play. If he wants to do an Imperial Aces build, cards like Push the Limit and Autothrusters might be of use. If you like a squadron of brave Rebel X-Wings, you'll get mileage out of Integrated Astromech.

The good thing about the above builder is that it includes the rules text of all the cards; you can read your options, see what you'd like to use and you've got your guide to what to buy right there.

I hope that's of help to you.

In "Yet another squad builder" ( https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/ ), you can go to the "card browser" tab to make it easier to look at all the cards at once. When you click on a card, it will say what sets you can buy it in. This isn't as useful as a master-list spreadsheet, but it can get you the information you need, with a little bit of work. There are better kits than others to get cards, but it really depends on what you want to play. If you have an idea, we can probably help more specifically.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have some homework to do :-) No, I have no idea what I want. In my view, you cannot just pick whatever you want. Unlike in some games where even the worst build can beat the best build (Infinity) although not easily and not without a good plan before you begin, I believe in X-Wing certain builds are just superior than others and bad build means a long frustrating day. I was hoping at least there was a just a competative build to start with.

I will look at both builders and play around and then maybe just pick something and see how things go. I personally don't care if I win or loose but was hoping my son would have a better shot at things.

Okay, I guess I know what I am doing once everyone get to bed. Maybe I will build a database for myself.

I'm surprised no one has talked about this yet go to the link most of these people are posting ( https://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v4!s!&sn=New%20Squadron ) then click log in click Facebook (it won't post anything) then you can add your entire collection online and whenever you make a list cards you don't have show up in red letters you can also label and save your lists!

Message me if you have any questions! It's so handy!!

If you use android there is an app called star tactics. You can enter what you own into it and build lists which is great. You can also look at what you don't have and see what comes with those.

More good info guys, thanks for taking the time to reply. Adding to my favorites list on my browser
