Please help me find a use for "Advanced SLAM"

By SlaveofChrist, in X-Wing

Hi Everyone, hope all is well :D .

I am having trouble finding a use for "Advanced SLAM" on the K-wing.

Every time I go to my favourite site, Fab's Squadron Generator , to play with new builds (anyone else have an addiction with the amount of time that they spend on this site by the way???) I can't seem to find a good use for Advanced SLAM even though I really want to.

Sigh...presumably, you are using the SLAM action to pull a Sir Robin...

...to run away ("It was a Strategic Retreat!") from danger, and so with Advanced SLAM, I am thinking you would be too far away to do a Target Lock and hence wouldn't have any benefit from a Focus Action either. I've thought of outfitting a K-wing with Lando Calrissian, but then, if the last sentence holds true, then alas, it is another waste.

I'm stuck...please help my fellow X-wing community fans!!! Thanks :) .

The obvious is adv slam and a bomb so you can almost drop it anywhere you want

Another option for a more efficient Miranda is tlt, adv slam and rey. Slam and focus to always have a stack

Also, dropping bombs.

Action bombs, the K-Wing is actually one of the most maneouverable ships in the game with the ability to do unmitigated damage to anything.

it's for conner nets

or the errant TL when you block some fool with SLAM (or block yourself to avoid getting shot)

This was the turn that I won the game. 3-bank, SLAM 3-bank, Advanced SLAM to drop clusters. The Defender did a 4-K through all three.

Hmmm...forgot about "action" bombs. I guess I kept thinking about dropping a "normal" bomb then pulling a SLAM, great suggestions though, thanks everyone!

Even as someone who likes running Defenders, I wouldn't mind losing to that, lovely set up.

This makes me chuckle.

Watch the Worlds top 16 cut.

Specifically the Corran/Miranda games.

It'll give you some ideas.

Ok! Thanks for the suggestion :) .

Like others have said, the main use is action bombs. It can also give you a regular action, or something on a an upgrade card.

I faced a Rey + K-Wing bomber list in a local regional twice, first game I just couldn't figure out how to avoid getting connered/clustered at all, and because of it's weird movements I couldn't burn it down before Rey got into the engagement.

I faced him again after the cut and was 1 hull left on Rey with a almost full Talonbane, but got outflown because of my fear for the bomber... Even if it's just a distraction, the K-Wing is a terrifying bomber, and something I definitely will need to learn to deal with myself xD

Saw a (beautifully flown) Phat Rey with outmaneuver, Finn and stuff. Accompanied by a K with Adv Slam and Sabine. Brutal damage output from Rey, plus double damage from bombs everywhere.

Some of the best fun I have had in X-wing is flying a K-wing loaded with conner nets, seismic charges and advanced slam flying against an Imperial aces list.

The ability to drop a connor net after performing the equivalent of a 6-straight maneuver is priceless. After the first connor net my opponent was so focused on killing that ship(and its remaining bombs) that he focused on it exclusively. I did not take one shot with that K-wing for the whole game. I SLAMed every turn. The threat of the bombs was enough and I cleaned up.

In conclusion advanced SLAM is awesome with action bombs.

7-straight, don't forget your own base-length!

it's for conner nets

There's also a new and quite fun use for Adv Slam - Seismic Torpedoes. :D

Those are fired with Actions, so perfect for after-Slam use.
It's nice to flank aces from across half the board and smack that roid they're hugging, with no fear of retaliation.

And you should already have Extra Munitions onboard, so you can do that twice for 2 points. Feels sooo good.

Excellent suggestion! Well, my thanks to the community, you have more than come through for me, God bless and thank you all ^_^ .

I stand corrected. Its even further than I thought. Lets see another small base ship do that...

The A-Wing and Interceptor can do it, 5 straight + base length + 1 boost = 7. It isn't as cool doing it without the mines, though :D

Even large based ships have trouble achieving more. Only the Shadowcaster can 5 + 2 base length + 1 boost for a pseudo 8 straight. Meaning the Lancer Pursuit craft is actually the fastest ship in the game when flying in a straight line.

Yeah, the bombs make it feel extra special.

Its a great feeling coming out of nowhere and dropping a connor net in front of Soontir. Then you see the look in your opponents eyes as he know that a token less Soontir with just 1HP left(Thanks to sabine, never leave home without her) is about to be focused on by two other ships.

Priceless.

The Lancer can actually do a 5-straight + base + 5-straight SLAM = 12-straight with Burnout Slam. The YTs come close with 4-straight + base + 4-straight SLAM = 10-straight.
