Milwaukee Regional today, updates as mood permits.

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

Asajj and the thugs was figured out just about when the shadowcaster came out. I ran it in a local League in September after seeing it on Vassal. It's kinda obvious, but it works.

True, I came up with a version that's like 2 upgrades different on Asajj on my own when it came out, but because Paul played it at worlds it will forever be known as "his list"

Actually.i take it back...there's a lot more defender lists than I noticed at first.

Finished in 41st place. Thought my high MOV in my final game would bump me up more than 9 spots but I guess not.

Not even top 32. Definetly a fail for me.

Here's your cut after Swiss.

Couldn't get lists ,sorry fellas..

Strong showing by Imperials looks like

Thanks for the link, I got to watch two games today. Sometimes it's a little hard to tell what's going on though. So one of you guys needs to do commentary on tomorrow's games. lol

Top 35 all look to be Imperials? That's CRAZY. Like, beyond crazy.

Either that, or the software defaults to imperial.

They are all listed as imperials.

EDIT: Which means it's a software thing. I think imperials might have been the least represented actually.

lol Phild0's heads about to explode over here!

Forget the Imperials the list to beat is that guy running the new faction

So I discovered after analyzing the final standings that if I didn't get that stupid blinded pilot crit in my 5th game and had killed the 25 point y-wing, I would have jumped from 41st to 34th. Oh well...

My actual scores for all 6 rounds were:

Round 1

Won 100-43

Can't remember who my opponent was

Round 2

Lost 100-76

Can't remember who my opponent was

Round 3

Won 100-20

Opponent went 2-4 and finished 62nd

Round 4

Lost 31-100

Opponent went 3-3 and finished 38th

Round 5

Lost 0-100

Opponent went 4-2 and finished 13th

Round 6

Won 100-18

Opponent went 2-4 and finished 60th

All 6 matchups based on squad lists were definitely winnable, based on lists alone the 3 I'd probably say I was most worried to face I went 2-1 against, and the loss was my close loss. I was 3-0 against rebel lists so I guess I should have hoped for all rebel matchups.

I faced three 2-ship lists, two 3-ship lists, and 1 4-ship list today that consisted of the following:

6 Y-Wings (all scum)

2 Jumpmasters

1 A-Wing

1 ARC

1 Decimator

1 Lancer

1 T-70

1 Defender

1 VCX

1 YT-1300

Oh, it was probably figured out well before that ...

A good bunch of Minn guys in the top 16, nice work TCX. :)

It's a software bug, not what most forum users would apparently call an acceptable and diverse meta

So a few final thoughts about the logistics of the milwaukee regional.

It was definetly well run, very efficient, good staff and judges, plenty of parking, a food truck outside, and so forth.

Only complaint would be the $30 entry fee. For $30 you get 6 games of x-wing saturday, plus whatever you choose to do (if anything) on Sunday. Custom acrylic range 1 and range 2 rulers. And for most (but not all) the alt art card. You don't get any other prizes unless you're top 24 or win one of the 3 side events on Sunday. No other door prizes or free food or discount products or anything. So basically only 27 people are gonna get prizes of any significance. So I'd either add more prize support or reduce the cost, but that's just my opinion.

Saturday's feature matches will be on the Board Game Barrister YouTube channel soon.

Top lists won't be typed up and posted until Sunday.

Sunday's finals will stream on twitch.tv/BoardGameBarrister

Eh...I don't know..I've paid way more for a lot less of a good time.

I guess it's relative. I think its an ok price point for a big event.

30$ sounds fair to me.

Wait, they gave out range 1 and 2 templates along with it all, and you think that's not worth it? God, I wish I got that from half the 40+ dollar fee tournaments I've entered. You are living the dream and don't know it.

I dont think its worth it either, especially as a new player to tourneys, it wouldnt exactly tickle my fancy to want to pay that much, especially if you have a good chance of not really progressing that far,

Thing is, you are paying for the chance to play players you normally wouldn't be able to play. I know for a fact the San Diego regional, a good amount of people drove/flew from the bay area, which is normally close to 7 hours travel time. You get to experience different play styles. I can tell you right now, playing against some of the euro players was quite enjoyable at worlds.

That's shocking not even those small sausages on sticks?

For that prize I would expect some caviar and champaign. Maybe also a free shuttle service with a golf cart between the tournament tables.
